The 2nd Vietnamese Studies and Language Student Scientific Conference was held on March 29, 2012. There were 20 reports presented in two subcommittees. This was the 2nd time that students of the faculty participated in scientific research and reported their research results in front of a large number of teachers and students in the faculty. Many foreign students studying at the faculty also attended and had lively debates. Most of the topics chosen by students are traditional and suitable for the majors they are being trained in. The topics of learning about festivals are chosen quite a lot, such as Going to the fields festival of the Tay-Nung ethnic group in Viet Bac by Le Hoai Thu, Xoan singing in Phu Tho by Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, Love market - A unique form of cultural activity by Le Thanh Thu and Pham Hai Yen, Fishing festival by Le Thi Ha Trang, Legend and festival of Mother Lieu Hanh by Le Thi Huyen and Nguyen Thi Trang, Legend and festival of Chu Dong Tu - Tien Dung by Vu Thi Thu Huyen, Dang Thi Ngan (accounting for 6 out of 20 reports). The topic of studying ancient cultural relics in modern economic and cultural life is also of interest such as Exploiting cultural heritage to serve tourism and economic development: Current situation and solutions from the case of Duong Lam ancient village by Pham Thi Canh, Pho Hien relics in modern life by Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and Nguyen Thi Thu Nhung, Hanoi Old Quarter in the market economy by Le Thi Lan, Cultural change - perspective from the ancient village on the outskirts of Hanoi (the case of Cu Da and Mong Phu ancient villages) by Nguyen Van Truong and Nguyen Thu Huong. (4 reports). There are two authors who choose the topic of studying worship beliefs: Duong Thi Thu Huong with the topic of The beauty in the ancestor worship customs of the San Diu people and Nguyen Thi Huyen with the topic of Basic features in the harmony between Brahmanism and indigenous Cham beliefs in the South Central Coast. The two topics about Vietnamese women that were studied were The image of the ideal woman in traditional Vietnamese society by Nguyen Thi Ngan and The role of female youth volunteers in the resistance war against the US by the group of authors Nguyen Thi Quynh Mai, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Pham Thi Thuong. The remaining six topics were by Dao Anh Tuan: The content value of Thai poems on the theme of love; Nguyen Thi Kieu Nhu: Unique features in the costumes of some ethnic groups in the Northwest of Vietnam; Tran Thi Anh Hong: Studying the culinary foundation of the H'mong people in the Northwest of Vietnam; Tran Thi Thu Huyen, Nguyen Thi Le, Vu Thi Hang: The impacts of the Hallu wave on Vietnamese youth; Nguyen Thi Ngan: The national name of Vietnam through feudal dynasties; Do Thanh Tinh: The mysterious beauty of Ba Be Lake. It can be said that the overall quality of the reports presented was quite good. The authors have invested time, effort and intelligence in surveying and researching to find new and unique features of each topic, giving convincing comments and assessments and solutions to preserve and promote cultural values to serve the needs of economic development, tourism and preserving national cultural identity. In addition to studying topics with traditional values, some have boldly studied new, modern topics of current events such as studying the impact of the Hallu wave on Vietnamese youth or Hanoi's Old Quarter in the market economy. One point to emphasize is that students have become increasingly familiar with writing and presenting a scientific research topic. Scientific reports have been presented in accordance with regulations and when presented, they have been approved by the audience. The opinions and discussions are also very interesting, evoking a truly scientific atmosphere, minimizing the gap between teachers and students, between Vietnamese and foreign students. If there was any regret, the general feeling of the participants was that the time spent on researching a topic (from the implementation to the organization of the conference) seemed to be too little. Therefore, many topics were carefully researched but when presented, they were not really convincing. As a result, the Board of Directors evaluated and awarded the highly appreciated topics including one first prize, one second prize, one third prize, and one consolation prize.
