The competition is an initiative of the Thai Embassy in Vietnam, held every 2-3 years with the aim of providing Vietnamese students learning Thai with an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and abilities, as well as encouraging them to develop their Thai language skills. At the same time, it contributes to promoting and encouraging the study and research of the Thai language among Vietnamese students. The competition also provides an opportunity for meeting, interacting, exchanging experiences in learning Thai, and sharing memories and feelings of those who have lived, worked, and studied in Thailand. Through this, it helps introduce the image of Thailand and its people to the Vietnamese people, raising awareness among Vietnamese students about the friendship between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Donlada Thongboon shared: “Currently, the relationship between Thailand and Vietnam is expanding in all fields, including politics, economics, society, and culture, from the state level to the private enterprise level. Therefore, the people of the two countries have many opportunities to meet, exchange ideas, and cooperate closely. Thailand and Vietnam have elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership. Because of the close relationship that has existed between the two countries for a long time, learning each other's languages is an important foundation for promoting cooperation between the two countries in various aspects. Education is a crucial foundation for the development of each nation. From the bottom of my heart, I hope that the young Vietnamese people participating in this year's competition will have the opportunity to hone and accumulate experience to develop their Thai language skills, helping them to progress further.”
