The Faculty of Journalism and Communication (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) is one of the two largest journalism and communication training institutions in Vietnam, offering two majors: Journalism and Public Relations, and providing all three levels of journalism training from bachelor's to doctoral degrees. It is also one of the first journalism training institutions in Vietnam to collaborate with the University of Stirling (UK) to offer a Master's program in Media Management, with the degree awarded by the University of Stirling.
In addition to classes in Hanoi, the Faculty also organizes many part-time study programs in various locations, from Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Nghe An, Ho Chi Minh City… to Ca Mau. Besides the foundational knowledge of socio-cultural studies inherited from Vietnam's leading university in the field of social sciences and humanities, students of the Faculty are equipped with basic and professional journalism knowledge from a team of highly qualified lecturers, many of whom have received training abroad (the former Soviet Union, the UK, Australia, South Korea, Sweden, etc.), and many renowned experts and journalists invited to teach by the Faculty. The investment in equipment, totaling nearly 30 billion VND (phase 1) in 2010 and nearly 30 billion VND (phase 2) in 2015, has created opportunities for students to gain practical experience and produce journalistic products similar to those in miniature newspaper newsrooms.
Over the past 25 years, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication has trained thousands of journalists, communication specialists, public relations professionals, and officials for central and local press management agencies. Many of the Faculty's students have become renowned journalists, and many hold leadership positions in press agencies and press management bodies.
The 25th anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication will be held on October 2nd, 2015 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The 25th anniversary of the Faculty's establishment is not only an occasion to foster pride in the Faculty's traditions, but also a chance to connect generations of students and faculty members within the Faculty with the goal of building and developing the Faculty to achieve even greater success in the future.
