Urbanization and Sustainable Development in the Central Highlands

On March 18, 2014, a workshop entitled "Urbanization and Management of Urbanization in Sustainable Development of the Central Highlands: Theory and Practice" was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This workshop was part of Project TN3/X15 (under the 3rd Science and Technology Program for Socio-Economic Development of the Central Highlands), chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Ba Thinh.

Urbanization and Sustainable Development in the Central Highlands
The workshop aims to discuss theoretical and practical issues, contributing to clarifying theories, perspectives, and experiences on urbanization and urbanization management in the sustainable development of the Central Highlands, and providing a scientific basis for policymakers in the socio-economic development of the Central Highlands region.

The main topics of the workshop were:

- Methodological issues and practical research approaches to urbanization and urban management in the sustainable development of the Central Highlands.
- Experiences of countries in the region and around the world regarding urbanization and managing the urbanization process in sustainable development.
- Issues related to urbanization and the management of urbanization in the Central Highlands region today.
- Specific recommendations on urbanization and managing the urbanization process in the sustainable development of the Central Highlands.

Typical reports such as: "On urbanization in the Central Highlands" (Dr. Pham Si Liem - Institute of Construction and Urban Economics Research) address the issue of needing to improve the capacity of the authorities of core cities so that these cities can have a strong ripple effect, promoting the development of the entire region; “Consequences of Rapid Urbanization in the Central Highlands” (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa – Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities) discusses the negative impacts of urbanization on water resources, natural landscapes, culture, and the lifestyle of people in the Central Highlands; “From Buon Ma Thuot City: Reflecting on the Urban Cultural Identity of the Central Highlands” (Prof. Dr. Hoang Dao Kinh – National Council for Cultural Heritage) addresses the issue of preserving tangible and traditional culture of ethnic minority communities in the context of modern urbanization; “Urban Planning in Buon Ma Thuot” (Architect Dieu Quang Hung) notes that urban planning should focus on natural conditions and historical and cultural factors; “Urban Cultural Life and the Development of Indicators for Measuring the Level of Urban Civilization” (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Hong Quang – Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts); “Basic Views of the Party and State on Urban Planning and Sustainable Urban Development” (Ms. Doan Thi Thanh Huyen – Vietnam Women's Academy); “Urbanization in the Central Highlands – current situation and trends” (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Ba Thinh – University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi)…
