Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Trade Union Cluster of 5 Schools

In accordance with the work plan for the 2013-2014 academic year, the 26th Conference of the Standing Committee of the Trade Union Cluster of 5 Universities (Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, University of Natural Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering) was held in Can Tho City over two days (March 27-28, 2014). This year's conference was hosted by the Standing Committee of the Trade Union of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.

At this conference, delegates focused on discussing the challenges and opportunities for development of the Trade Union of the five schools in the context of implementing the 8th Central Committee Resolution of the 11th Party Congress on fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training.

Attending the conference were representatives from the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, and 50 delegates from the cluster of 5 universities' trade unions. The delegation of trade union officials from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Vice Rector.

Also attending and speaking at the conference were the Chairperson of the Trade Union and the Head of the Women's Affairs Committee of the Trade Union of Can Tho University.

The conference listened to and discussed presentations from delegates of five universities, including: “The role of trade unions in disseminating and educating on legal matters in the context of fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training” (University of Social Sciences and Humanities); “The role of trade unions in improving the quality of lecturers at the University of Science”; “The role of trade unions in maintaining and improving the quality of training at the University of Technology”... The conference also heard a presentation from a delegate of the Can Tho University Trade Union on the experience of the Women's Committee of the Can Tho University Trade Union.

Through presentations and discussions, the leadership of the Trade Union in each school gained valuable experience to find the most effective solutions for innovating trade union activities, contributing to the school's efforts in implementing the fundamental and comprehensive educational reform movement in particular and the national education system in general.

At the conclusion of the Conference, the Chairman of the Trade Union of the University of Civil Engineering respectfully handed over the hosting rights of the 27th Conference to the Standing Committee of the Trade Union of the National Economics University.

In conjunction with the above activities, on March 27, 2014, a delegation from five universities visited and interacted with Can Tho University. The delegation was received by representatives of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, and the Standing Committee of the University's Trade Union.

Speaking at the exchange event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of Can Tho University, thanked the Board of Directors and the Trade Union of the cluster of 5 universities in the Hanoi area for organizing this activity. The Rector also introduced some outstanding information about the University in the past period, such as achievements in scientific research, international cooperation, quality assurance work, especially the Project."Upgrading Can Tho University to become an excellent university in training, scientific research, and technology transfer."from ODA funding provided by the Japanese government.

During this trip, the delegation from the Cluster of 5 Trade Unions of the Schools also organized a field trip to Ca Mau Cape and the southernmost point of the country. Upon arriving at the southernmost point of the country, everyone shared a feeling of emotion and pride, and silently vowed to always strive to perform their duties well to contribute to the protection, preservation, and development of a more prosperous and beautiful Vietnam.
