Co-founder of the Association of Universities in the Red River Basin

Representatives of the leaders of member universities of the Association of Universities in the Red River Basin were introduced at the forum.

The forum was attended by representatives from 12 universities, including 5 from Vietnam (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi University of Agriculture, University of Culture, Hung Vuong University, Lao Cai Pedagogical College), 07 from China (Yunnan University, Yunnan Nationalities University, Kunming University of Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, Honghe Academy, Dali Academy). In addition, there were representatives of Vietnamese and Chinese leaders and scientists: Mr. Tong Quang Hung (Deputy Director of Yunnan Department of Education), Mr. Nguyen Chinh Thang (Consulate General of Vietnam in Kunming), Mr. Te Kien Quoc (Vice President of China - Vietnam Friendship Association, former Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam)...

At this forum, the Rectors exchanged information and discussed together to come up with directions for cooperation in training and research in the coming time, on the basis of clearly identifying the conditions for connection and common development goals among universities in the Red River basin.

The most prominent activity of the forum was the establishment of the Association of Universities in the Red River Basin at the initiative of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Hong Ha Academy. The Association initially has 12 member universities, operating on the principles of voluntariness, equality, and long-term cooperation for the benefit of all parties and the common interests of the region and the community. The members will use their own characteristics and strengths to promote sustainable development cooperation between schools in the fields of human resource training, talent recruitment, student exchange, scientific research, etc. The above activities not only help improve the quality of training and research of member schools but also help strengthen collective cohesion, enhance the position and spread the influence of the Association to neighboring areas.

The Principals signed a memorandum of understanding, voted to approve the Association's charter, logo, and emblem, and elected important positions. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and Prof. Cam Tuyet Xuan (Rector of Hong Ha Academy) were elected as Co-Chairs of the Association for the 2014-2016 term. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu (Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Training Cooperation) and Dr. Truong Hy (Head of the Department of International Cooperation, Hong Ha Academy) were elected as Co-Chairs of the Association's Secretariat.

The Forum of Rectors of Universities in the Red River Basin will be held in rotation at member universities of the Association, once a year. The second Forum will be hosted by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, scheduled to take place in mid-October 2015.
