Excited about the “Lunch Box Club for English”

From the initiative of the School Principal, Professor Pham Quang Minh, to the coordinated efforts of the Human Resources Department and the School's Trade Union, and the eagerness to learn of the School's young staff members, a vibrant and innovative atmosphere was created during the first meeting of LBCE.

The "Lunch Box Club for English" had a successful launch with the participation of: (from left to right)Professor Inagaki Tsutomu (Rikkyo University, Japan), Professor Norifumi Namatame (Tohoku Fukushi University, Japan)Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan,Professor Colman Ross (University of Dublin, Ireland)

Attending the event were Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University), and three visiting professors currently teaching at the University: Prof. Colman Ross (University of Dublin, Ireland), Prof. Norifumi Namatame (Tohoku University Fukushi, Japan), and Prof. Inagaki Tsutomu (Rikkyo University, Japan). More than 40 young staff members participated in the club's first meeting.

The first meeting of LBCE consisted of greetings, introductions, and networking with invited guests. A unique aspect of this club was its organization and the demeanor of its attendees. A warm and open atmosphere prevailed, contrasting with typical meetings, scientific conferences, or academic group discussions. Because English proficiency varied among members, the primary goal was to help each member communicate more in English and confidently express their abilities. The topics of conversation and discussion were open-ended issues related to life and work.

Professor Pham Quang Minh, the Rector of the University, shared his thoughts on the idea behind establishing LBCE and the recent series of events aimed at building an English-speaking environment at the University:"Personal experience shows that teachers only need to be confident, relaxed, and practice a lot to improve their communication skills. From there, they can enhance their proficiency and achieve their further goals. To do that, they need an environment, regular English practice, and encouragement to express themselves more."

In addition to the Lunch Box Club for English, the school is currently running two English communication training courses for staff, lecturers, and specialists, and a Master's Tea Club for students. Both the training courses and the club feature foreign professors and experts as instructors.

LBCE is held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM every Friday. Each session features at least one professor or foreign expert discussing a specific topic with the members. Lunchtime at the university has become a time for faculty and staff to enhance their networking, sharing, and improving their English communication skills as well as their professional expertise. Recently, the university has expanded and upgraded its facilities and spaces for self-study, student activities, and club life. This has contributed to the realization of many unique and practical ideas in all aspects of the activities of faculty, staff, and students.
