On May 19, 2017, the 22nd Student Scientific Conference for the 2016-2017 academic year was successfully held on the 8th floor of Building E, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, delivered the opening speech at the Conference.

The Student Scientific Conference is one of the annual activities with great significance for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This is a long-standing and cherished tradition of the university, providing an opportunity for students to practice and hone their research skills, as well as learn how to think and work independently. This activity aims to contribute to improving the quality of education and clearly demonstrates the determination and direction of the University's Board of Directors in building a strong scientific research environment among all staff and students.

Attending the conference, on behalf of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was Dr. Pham Duc Anh – Deputy Head of the Science and Technology Department, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Representing the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Vice Rector of the university, along with numerous faculty members from various departments, offices, research groups, and students from the university.

In his opening remarks at the conference, Professor Nguyen Van Kim – Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Rector – affirmed: “Scientific research activities occupy a crucial position in the development of the University. Student scientific research reflects the tradition of continuous learning and development, the cradle that nurtures scientific dreams at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, scientific research activities greatly support students in their practical work, developing their capabilities and skills for the future.”

Professor Nguyen Van Kim said: “Research activities at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in recent years have increasingly demonstrated a systematic approach, high quality, and a combination of in-depth theory and practical application. Many topics can be developed into graduation theses, and even higher, doctoral dissertations and doctoral dissertations.”

In his opening speech, Professor Nguyen Van Kim encouraged, motivated, and acknowledged the efforts of the students, while expressing great hope for their professional competence, enthusiasm, and ideas that have been implemented, tested, and validated through many rounds of competition.

Doan Ngoc Chung (K58, Faculty of Literature) presented the topic "Similarities and Distinct Features in the Spirit Medium Rituals of Several Ethnic Groups in Vietnam".

This year's student research projects are considered diverse and rich in research topics. This year, the number of students participating in scientific research is increasing, with 911 ideas out of a total of 6000 students. Among the proposed research reports from various faculties, several have a high participation rate, such as the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Oriental Studies, History, Philosophy, Literature, and Political Science…

After a rigorous screening and selection process, the 7 best scientific reports were honored to be presented to a large audience of professors and students at the conference. These works are:

  • Clothing and accessories from the Ly-Tran dynasties, as seen in archaeological evidence.– Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen (K58, Faculty of Anthropology)
  • When the rocky plateau is no longer thirsty: Water in the life of the Hmong people.– Cao Thi Thuy Hoang, Nguyen Thi Hai Giang (K59, Faculty of Anthropology)
  • Similarities and differences in the spirit medium rituals of several ethnic groups in Vietnam.– Doan Ngoc Chung (K58, Faculty of Literature)
  • Maritime rescue policies during the reigns of Emperors Gia Long and Minh Mạng (1802-1840)– Pham Thi Thom (K58, Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language)
  • The influence of managerial experience on office management decision-making.– Dao Thi Quynh (K58, Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Management)
  • The relationship between self-confidence and career motivation among students of Vietnam National University, Hanoi –Hoang Thanh Hue, Pham Le Ngoc Lan, Bui Thi Tuyet Nhung (K58, Department of Psychology)
  • The South Korean student democracy movement (1970s-1980s)Tran Tung Ngoc (K58, Faculty of Oriental Studies)

At the conference, the research teams confidently presented their findings in a convincing manner and received enthusiastic and impartial feedback and comments from the judging panel and outstanding lecturers of the university.

At the conclusion of the conference, the school awarded 7 first prizes, 12 second prizes, and 17 third prizes to outstanding scientific works by students.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim presented the collective award to representatives of the winning faculties.

The team awards include:

  • First Prize: Faculty of Management Science.
  • Second Prize: Faculty of History, Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Management, Faculty of Literature.
  • Third Prize: Department of Anthropology, Division of Religious Studies, Faculty of Sociology.

The Student Union also awarded the Green Torch Award to 06 students with excellent and high-quality projects related to student activities and youth throughout the school:

  • Hoang Thanh Hue, Pham Le Ngoc Lan, Bui Thi Tuyet Nhung - K59 High-Quality Psychology Program.
  • Ha Thi Kieu Anh, Nguyen Thi Lan Anh - K59, Department of Anthropology.
  • Dang Ngoc Linh - K58, Faculty of Information Science.

Professor Nguyen Van Kim presented the "Student Scientific Research" award to the student teams that won first and second prizes.
