XXII Student Scientific Conference, 2016-2017 school year

On May 19, 2017, on the 8th floor of Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, the 22nd Student Scientific Conference, 2016-2017 school year, successfully took place.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities delivered the opening speech at the Conference.

The student scientific conference is one of the annual activities, which has a lot of meaning for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This is a good tradition of the school for many years, and is also an opportunity for students to practice, improve their research ability as well as learn how to think and work independently. This activity aims to contribute to improving the quality of training, clearly demonstrating the determination and orientation of the School's Board of Directors in building a strong scientific research environment among all staff and students.

Attending the conference, on behalf of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, there was the presence of Dr. Pham Duc Anh - Deputy Head of the Department of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Party Committee Secretary, Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Vice Rector of the school, along with many teachers from faculties, departments, offices and research groups of students of the school.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Party Committee Secretary, Vice Rector affirmed: "Scientific research activities play an important role in the development of the University. Scientific research among students demonstrates the tradition of continuous learning, continuous building, the cradle that nurtures the scientific dreams of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In addition, scientific research activities greatly support students in the process of practicing their work, training their mettle and working skills in the future."

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim said: “Recent years of scientific research activities at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have increasingly demonstrated their methodical, high-quality and combination of in-depth theory and practical application. Many topics can be developed into graduation theses, and even higher, doctoral dissertations and theses.”

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim encouraged, motivated, and recognized the efforts of the students, and expressed great hope for their professional capacity, enthusiasm, and ideas that have been implemented, experienced, and verified through many rounds of competition.

Doan Ngoc Chung (K58 Faculty of Literature) presented the topic "Similarities and differences in the rituals of spirit mediumship of some ethnic groups in Vietnam".

This year’s student research projects are considered diverse and rich in research issues. This year, the number of students participating in scientific research is increasing with 911 ideas out of a total of 6,000 students. In the proposed research reports in the faculties, there are many faculties with a high rate of participation in scientific research such as the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Oriental Studies, History, Philosophy, Literature, Political Science, etc.

Through many screening and selection processes, the 07 best scientific reports were honored to be presented to a large number of teachers and students at the conference. These are the works:

  • Costumes and jewelry of the Ly - Tran dynasties through archaeological documents– Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen (K58 Faculty of Anthropology)
  • When the Stone Plateau is No Longer Thirsty: Water in the Life of the Hmong People– Cao Thi Thuy Hoang, Nguyen Thi Hai Giang (K59 Faculty of Anthropology)
  • Similarities and differences in the spirit mediumship rituals of some ethnic groups in Vietnam– Doan Ngoc Chung (K58 Faculty of Literature)
  • Sea rescue policy under the reign of King Gia Long - Minh Mang (1802-1840)– Pham Thi Thom (K58 Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language)
  • The influence of management experience on office management decision making– Dao Thi Quynh (K58 Faculty of Archival Science and Office Administration)
  • The relationship between self-efficacy beliefs and work-oriented motivation of VNU students –Hoang Thanh Hue, Pham Le Ngoc Lan, Bui Thi Tuyet Nhung (K58 Faculty of Psychology)
  • Korean student democracy movement (1970s-1980s) –Tran Tung Ngoc (Class 58, Faculty of Oriental Studies)

At the Conference, the author groups confidently presented their research results in a convincing manner and received enthusiastic and fair comments and feedback from the Board of Judges and the school's excellent lecturers.

At the conference, the school awarded 07 first prizes, 12 second prizes and 17 third prizes to outstanding scientific works of students.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim presented collective awards to representatives of the winning faculties.

Collective awards include:

  • First Prize: Faculty of Management Science.
  • Second Prize: Faculty of History, Faculty of Archival Science and Office Administration, Faculty of Literature.
  • Third Prize: Faculty of Anthropology, Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Sociology.

The school also awarded the Green Torch Award to 06 students with good and quality topics for student and youth activities of the whole school:

  • Hoang Thanh Hue, Pham Le Ngoc Lan, Bui Thi Tuyet Nhung - K59 High Quality Psychology.
  • Ha Thi Kieu Anh, Nguyen Thi Lan Anh - K59 Faculty of Anthropology.
  • Dang Ngoc Linh - K58 Faculty of Information Technology.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim awarded the "Student Scientific Research" prize to the group of students who won the First and Second prizes.
