On May 16, 2017, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision appointing Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Son – Rector of the University of Economics, VNU – to the position of Vice Director of VNU.

Attending the ceremony, on the side of the Government leaders and central ministries and agencies were: Mr. Phung Xuan Nha - Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Nguyen Duy Thang - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, along with representatives from the Government Office, the Office of the President, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representatives from central ministries and agencies and Hanoi.

Representing Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) were: Mr. Nguyen Kim Son – Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of VNU, members of the Board of Directors, former leaders of VNU from various periods, leaders of the Office and functional departments, and member and affiliated units of VNU.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Duy Thang announced Decision No. 509/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the temporary appointment of Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, Rector of the University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to the position of Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

On behalf of the Government, Mr. Phung Xuan Nha, Minister of Education and Training, presented the Prime Minister's Decision to the new Deputy Director, Nguyen Hong Son.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Nguyen Kim Son congratulated the new Vice Director, Nguyen Hong Son. The Director expressed that the new Vice Director has been entrusted by the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, with the important responsibility of training – a crucial area with both opportunities and challenges facing Vietnam National University, Hanoi in particular and the education and training sector in general.

“At the same time, this is also an opportunity for VNU to demonstrate its pioneering role in the field of education and training. The task set for the new Vice Director, Nguyen Hong Son, is also very challenging. I believe that, with the support and unity of the entire staff, lecturers, and students of VNU, our Board of Directors will fulfill the task and contribute to the common cause of VNU,” Director Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.

Expressing his honor at being appointed to the new position, the new Vice Director Nguyen Hong Son thanked the staff and leaders of the University of Economics and the key officials of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the higher-level leaders for their trust in appointing him to this new role.

 

The new Vice Director stated that Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) holds a special position in the Vietnamese higher education system, playing a crucial role in the national innovation system. Along with research, training is one of the two core areas that contribute to VNU's status, prestige, and brand. In recent years, thanks to its dynamism, creativity, and efforts to expand cooperative relationships, VNU has achieved many important results. However, it also faces many challenges, such as maintaining and developing traditional academic disciplines, effectively utilizing existing training programs to meet societal needs, and linking training with research, practice, and international collaboration.

The newly appointed Vice Director, Nguyen Hong Son, expressed his determination to work together with his colleagues in the Board of Directors of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) to continue innovating training. According to the new Vice Director, training must be linked to the specific characteristics of each ngành (field/discipline), leveraging the strengths of each unit while simultaneously strengthening the collaborative power among members, demonstrating unity in diversity within the One – VNU model. “Training methods need to be diversified, the capacity of staff and lecturers needs to be constantly improved, and the role of regulation and management needs to be strengthened by creatively and flexibly applying the Decrees of the State and the Ministry of Education and Training. This will create a favorable environment for units to maximize their strengths, support the resolution of emerging issues, seek resources, and connect domestic and international relationships,” Vice Director Nguyen Hong Son affirmed.
