Recognizing the importance of Vietnamese writing skills in learning, research, job searching, and building a rich and healthy spiritual life, the Cultural Ambassadors Club of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language organized the "VSL Pen" competition for Vietnamese students in the faculty and the "Vietnamese Letter" competition for international students. The theme of the competition was: Life Through My Eyes. The entries revealed the writers' perspectives, viewpoints, and reasoning on various aspects of life, from education, love, family, and work to other social issues.

The competition aims to give international students the opportunity to explore the subtle and captivating expressive possibilities of the Vietnamese language and share unique perspectives and experiences about Vietnam. For Vietnamese students, the competition aims to encourage them to continuously improve their Vietnamese writing skills – a skill that is increasingly important for the success of young people in their careers and lives.
The judging panel, comprised of many qualified teachers, scored the entries based on the following criteria: relevance to the competition theme; originality and impact of content; and expressive ability.

According to the judging panel, the entries demonstrated a high level of proficiency among international students in using Vietnamese to describe, analyze, comment on, and express emotions. Some essays were excellent, truly touching the reader's heart. Vietnam, through these essays, was presented vividly and multifacetedly. Some viewed Vietnam through its constant transformation and movement. Others saw Vietnam up close through the flavors of its food, its bustling streets, or its vibrant traffic. Some essays frankly pointed out aspects of uncivilized behavior among Vietnamese people. Still others viewed life in Vietnam in comparison to their own country.

Furthermore, the essays by Vietnamese students were judged to be elaborate and impressive, containing many genuine feelings, hopes, and reflections on life, demonstrating good writing and cognitive abilities. The writing topics were quite diverse: from sharing about family and the ideals of youth to feelings for teachers and the Faculty/University, or impressions of a literary work.
According to Dr. Dang Hoang Gian (Head of the Cultural Ambassadors Club): The competition was successful not only in discovering writing talents but also as a platform for noble thoughts, opening up the possibility of writing authentically based on authentic living.
