Seminar "Information on Science and Technology Today"

The workshop "Information on Science and Technology Today" took place over two days, December 17th and 18th, and was jointly organized by the Faculty of Information and Library Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Vietnam Association of Scientific and Technological Information and Documentation.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide a comprehensive and thorough overview of theoretical issues related to scientific information; thereby making accurate assessments of the position, role, operational practices, and human resources of scientific and technological information at information and library centers in Vietnam today; and to propose recommendations and solutions for all levels and sectors to further improve the effectiveness of scientific and technological information activities, serving the industrialization and modernization of the country.

The workshop was attended by scientists, managers, experts, and lecturers from across the country in the field of Library and Information Science. 39 reports focused on the following issues:

- Information science within the human knowledge system and research approaches in the world and in Vietnam;

- The position and role of scientific and technological information in the information society/knowledge economy;

- The Party and State's orientation towards science and technology information activities;

- The current state of science and technology information activities in the world and in Vietnam: the need for science and technology information in economic and social development; resources and systems of science and technology information; science and technology information products and services;

- The current situation and future directions for organizing information science research and training human resources in the field of science and technology information activities in the world and in Vietnam.
