Tenth meeting of the Science and Training Council

On October 25, 2014, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) chaired the 10th meeting of the Science and Training Council for the 2009-2014 term.

Tenth meeting of the Science and Training Council

The council discussed the following important issues:

- Report on the Draft Strategy for the Development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

- Report on the Draft Strategy for Science and Technology Development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities up to 2020 and Vision 2030.

- Report on outstanding results in scientific activities during the 2013-2014 academic year and key tasks for the 2014-2015 academic year.

- Proposal to establish a Department of Anthropology.

- Proposal to establish a Department of International Development Studies within the Faculty of International Studies.

At the meeting, during the discussion on the draft development strategy for the University, some opinions suggested that the direction and solutions for building a research university should be more specific; there should be a plan for close monitoring and evaluation to ensure the successful implementation of objectives; solutions should be developed for building research groups; emphasis should be placed on developing new research fields in an interdisciplinary direction; practical research serving society should be promoted; professionalism in management should be enhanced; modern university governance should be prioritized, and investment should be made in building a qualified staff...

The Council members also supported the proposal to establish a Department of Anthropology and a Division of International Development Studies within the Faculty of International Studies. However, the Council members also suggested that the unit should focus on strengthening its human resources to ensure the development of the new units, and develop development orientations that are both consistent with the realities of Vietnam and up-to-date with international trends.

Based on the feedback from the Council, the drafts and proposals presented at the meeting will be revised and finalized.
