Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs; Mr. Chu Duc Nhuan - Director of the Department of Science, Education and Social Affairs, Government Office; and Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang - Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.


The opening ceremony was held in the courtyard of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
In his opening speech for the new academic year, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, extended his congratulations to the 1600 new students of the 61st cohort – candidates who successfully passed the challenging aptitude test to become students of one of Vietnam's most prestigious and traditional universities.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities had a very successful academic year with outstanding results: The University was awarded the First-Class Labor Medal for the second time on the occasion of its 70th anniversary and 20th anniversary; the Oriental Studies program is the second program of the University to receive quality accreditation from AUN; University staff published more than 50 international works, including 9 works with high impact factors; Professor Phan Huy Le was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize…
In this overall development, students play a crucial role in contributing to improving the quality of education, scientific research, and enhancing the prestige and standing of the University. With the spirit of "Respecting the past, embracing the future," young people need to be more determined, united, and enthusiastic, preparing well from now on for their studies so that they can seize and open the door to their own future.
Concluding his speech, the Rector extended his best wishes to the new students: "Happy opening day, radiant success, USSH - our shared home."

The ceremony was attended by many veteran educators: Professor Vu Duong Ninh, Professor Phan Huy Le, Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, Professor Dinh Van Duc, Professor Le Quang Thiem, Professor Phung Huu Phu, and many others.
On behalf of generations of educators, Professor Vu Duong Ninh, Chairman of the Retired Teachers Association of the University, shared about the traditional values that have been formed over 70 years of building and developing the University. These include the tradition of patriotism; and the tradition of persistently striving for scientific excellence by the teaching staff and scientific personnel.;The tradition of continuous inheritance and connection between generations of teachers and students; the tradition of international integration; the humanistic tradition that leaves a deep mark on the human relationship between teachers and students, between generations, and between the school and society. These are the values that the school has accumulated and nurtured through many stages of development, alongside the ups and downs of the nation's history. Understanding this tradition will help today's young people to love this school even more, to determine for themselves the right goals and ideals in life, to strive in their studies and training, and to contribute to the development of the school and the country.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs, presented the Government's Emulation Flag to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Professor Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, presented the Certificate of Accreditation for the Bachelor's program in Oriental Studies according to the ASEAN University Network (AUN) standards to Dr. Luu Tuan Anh, Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs, presented the Government's Emulation Flag to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Mr. Chu Duc Nhuan, Director of the Department of Science, Education and Social Affairs, Government Office, presented a flower basket from Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung to congratulate the school on the occasion of the opening of the new academic year.

The school awarded prizes to 176 students with outstanding academic and training achievements; and also honored the two valedictorians of the 2016 university entrance exam: Vu Quynh Trang (Faculty of Journalism and Communication) and Pham Thi Kim Dung (Oriental Studies).

Principal Pham Quang Minh presented certificates of merit to students who achieved excellent academic results.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh presented flowers to representatives of the University's partner organizations: AEON Group (South Korea), Oxford English UK Vietnam, BIDV Bank, and VTC Mobile.
During the ceremony, many companies and businesses also awarded scholarships to students of the university. Immediately following the opening ceremony were a series of activities to welcome new students and the new academic year, such as: the unveiling of banners promoting traffic safety month; a discussion on "Is studying at university difficult or easy?"; and the USSH's Got Talent gala…
