During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University) introduced the Institute for Policy and Management (IPAM) of the University. IPAM is one of the pioneering units in research and policy consulting in the field of science and technology in Vietnam. In the period 2014-2016, the Institute led the implementation of 5 national-level projects and 2 provincial-level projects, carried out 2 international projects with funding from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation – Federal Republic of Germany; implemented cooperation projects with the Rosa Luxemburg Institute; organized more than 24 training courses on policy analysis and planning skills in localities and annual training courses on policy analysis, planning, and evaluation skills for officials of the National Assembly Office; and signed cooperation agreements with many domestic partners such as the Institute for Legislative Research (under the Standing Committee of the National Assembly). In the coming period, the Institute will continue to focus its research on public policy, science and technology policy, and postgraduate training in Public Policy.
Dr. Edgard R. Rodriguez expressed his admiration for IPAM's achievements and thanked the Institute for choosing IDRC as one of its international partners. Dr. Rodriguez hoped to further promote cooperation with the Institute by acting as a bridge between the Institute and the University with Canadian universities and the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam. He stated that leading Canadian universities such as the University of Toronto, UBC, and Vancouver Island are currently very interested in establishing and expanding cooperation with Vietnamese universities. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities would be a reliable partner, especially in the field of social sciences and humanities.
