The School Principal visited and signed a cooperation agreement with Beijing Foreign Studies University

Within the framework of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's official visit to China, on September 13, 2016, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi Pham Quang Minh visited the Asia-Africa Academy, Beijing University of Foreign Studies.

Welcoming the Minister and the Principal were Principal Peng Long, Vice Principal Yan Guohua, Prof. Sun Xiaomeng - Director of the Institute of Asian-African Studies, Prof. Mi Liang and lecturers along with more than 20 students of the Vietnamese language department of the school. The Minister and the Principal visited the classroom and met with teachers and students of the Vietnamese language department of the Institute. On behalf of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Principal Peng Long said: Beijing Foreign Studies University is the largest and most prestigious foreign language teaching university in China, currently training more than 30 foreign languages. Hundreds of Chinese ambassadors were students of the school. In the coming time, the school will organize training in all languages ​​in the world. The Vietnamese language department of Beijing Foreign Studies University has been teaching for more than 10 years and has many achievements, and plans to establish a Vietnam Studies Center this year to further strengthen training and in-depth research on Vietnam. Principal Peng Long also promised to help develop the Chinese Studies department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Minister Phung Xuan Nha was also pleased with the great achievements in cooperation between the two countries in general and between the two education sectors in particular. The Minister emphasized the role of education, in which one of the main pillars that has built these achievements is language. The Minister highly appreciated the teachers and students who have chosen to study Vietnamese and hoped that teachers and students will contribute more to promoting cooperation between the two sides. The Minister fully supports and will create favorable conditions for the two schools to build a Vietnam Research Center at Beijing Foreign Studies University. This center is both a place for training and research on Vietnam and a place to promote cooperation between the two sides. The Minister hopes that the Vietnam Research Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University will become a prestigious address not only in China, but also have a regional and international position in the future.

On behalf of the School, Principal Pham Quang Minh introduced the history of the School's establishment and development, emphasizing its strengths, especially in training Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language for foreigners. Some of the School's Chinese alumni later became Chinese ambassadors to Vietnam such as Ly Gia Trung, Te Kien Quoc... The Principal also pledged to successfully implement the Minister's direction on strengthening cooperation with Beijing Foreign Studies University in general, and building the Vietnam Research Center in particular.
