The Master of Communication Management program has been jointly implemented in Vietnam by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Stirling since 2015. The program aims to help Vietnamese communication managers and communication specialists improve their professionalism in their work and meet the strong changes and constant competition in the current economic context, while providing learners with a solid career foundation in the communication industry. The training content follows the standard program currently taught at the University of Stirling - the first and leading training institution for the Master of Communication Management in the UK - and has been adjusted to suit the actual development requirements of the communication industry in Vietnam. All modules in the program are taught by leading professors and lecturers of the University of Stirling and Vietnamese lecturers as assistants. In addition, each module includes topical news reports by Vietnamese communication experts or field trips to prestigious media agencies and units. The course content is evaluated as not only providing basic knowledge about communication but also providing practical and modern knowledge about communication management, crisis handling...
The first students of the Program took a souvenir photo with Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication) and experts from the University of Stirling: Ms. Elizabeth Robertson (Project Manager), Dr. Eddy Borges (Director of the Master of International Communication Management Program), Prof. Richard Oram (Head of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities)
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thu Huong (Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication): The Master of Media Management program was implemented and achieved initial success thanks to the determination and support of professors from the University of Stirling, the support from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the continuous efforts of the students. We hope that this course will bring you 3 values: knowledge - vision - confidence. With updated and new knowledge from leading experts from the UK, you can completely face the challenges of your future career and have optimal solutions to contribute to bringing positive changes to the appearance of the Journalism and Communication industry in Vietnam.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Principal of the School): The Master of Communication Management program is one of the typical programs in the training cooperation activities of the School with prestigious partners in the world. Every beginning is difficult, but the Faculty of Journalism and Communication has always strived to build a quality training program, meeting the requirements of learners and also following the current development direction of the School. The School looks forward to having more such quality training programs implemented at the Faculty.
Dr. Mai Duc Loc (Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association): Congratulations to the Faculty of Journalism and Communication for making another new mark in the development process of the unit. The Faculty is not only the cradle of journalism and communication training in the country but also continues to be a pioneer in international training cooperation in this field. This is a necessary activity to help improve the qualifications and capacity of human resources working in the industry, meeting the increasingly high demands of the current Vietnamese journalism and communication industry.
Dr. Eddy Borges (Director of the Master of International Communication Management Program): For the students, this will be an important stepping stone to bring them closer to career opportunities and realize their dreams. Despite many difficulties, you have shown your curiosity and efforts to overcome difficulties to successfully complete your studies and research. Information is the lifeblood of human social and cultural development. You are holding in your hands the skills to manage the flow of information and grasp trends. This course also brings awareness: there are no more barriers in a globalized society and that motivates you to expand your development capabilities on a global scale and join the Stirling student community in 120 countries. I am also very pleased that the cooperation between the two universities has brought initial results. Our goal is to continue to promote the development of this program as one of the typical cooperative activities of the two universities. This will be the premise for further strategic cooperation between the two schools.
New Master Nguyen Truong Quy, on behalf of the students, expressed his gratitude to the teachers and the School: The course has great spiritual significance for me personally, helping me remove my own thinking barriers and creating motivation for new plans in the future. We have achieved initial results thanks to the enthusiastic support and inspiration from the lecturers of the University of Stirling and the lecturers of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication.
The programme is taught entirely in English and adheres to the rigorous standards of the University of Stirling. The thesis is assessed by three foreign professors to ensure fairness.
Many students shared that at first, they encountered many difficulties: language barriers, having to absorb academic knowledge, and the pressure of studying and working at the same time. In addition, because the teaching method emphasizes independence in thinking and work, requiring a lot of reading and self-study, students are forced to make an effort to change themselves. However, the results are completely worth the effort.
The students of the first course are mostly managers in the field of journalism and communications, senior personnel in charge of communications at enterprises, lecturers and people working in different professional fields but interested in and passionate about this field. In the photo is architect and writer Nguyen Truong Quy - one of the students receiving the first course diploma. He currently works at Tre Publishing House.
