On October 30, 2017, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication and the University of Stirling (UK) awarded Master's degrees in International Media Management to the first graduates of the program.

The Master of Media Management program, jointly offered by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Stirling, has been implemented in Vietnam since 2015. The program aims to help Vietnamese media managers and professionals enhance their professionalism and adapt to the rapidly changing and competitive landscape of the current economy, while providing students with a solid career foundation in the media industry. The curriculum follows the standard program taught at the University of Stirling – the leading and first-ranked Master of Media Management program in the UK – and is adapted to meet the evolving needs of the media industry in Vietnam. All modules are taught by leading professors and lecturers from the University of Stirling, with Vietnamese lecturers assisting. In addition, each module includes thematic presentations by Vietnamese media experts or field trips to prestigious media organizations. Although only launched two years ago, the program has attracted the attention of learners, especially media leaders from large companies and corporations. The course content is considered to provide not only foundational knowledge of communication but also practical and modern knowledge on media management, crisis handling, and more.

The first participants of the program took a commemorative photo with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication) and experts from Stirling University: Ms. Elizabeth Robertson (Project Manager), Dr. Eddy Borges (Director of the Master's Program in International Media Management), and Prof. Richard Oram (Head of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thu Huong (Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication): The Master of Communication Management program has been implemented and achieved initial success thanks to the determination and support of professors from Stirling University, the support from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the continuous efforts of the students. We hope that this course will bring you three values: knowledge, vision, and confidence. With up-to-date and fresh knowledge from leading experts from the United Kingdom, you will be fully capable of facing the challenges of your future career and developing optimal solutions to contribute to positive changes in the landscape of the Vietnamese journalism and communication industry.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University): The Master of Communication Management program is one of the exemplary programs in the University's collaborative training activities with reputable partners worldwide. Every beginning is difficult, but the Faculty of Journalism and Communication has always strived to build a high-quality training program that meets the needs of students and aligns with the University's current development direction. The University looks forward to having more high-quality training programs like this implemented in the Faculty.

Dr. Mai Duc Loc (Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association): Congratulations to the Faculty of Journalism and Communication for marking another new milestone in the unit's development. The Faculty is not only a cradle for journalism and communication training nationwide but also continues to lead in international training cooperation in this field. This is a necessary activity to help improve the skills and capabilities of human resources working in the industry, meeting the increasingly high demands of Vietnam's journalism and communication today.

Dr. Eddy Borges (Director of the Master's Program in International Media Management): For the students, this will be an important stepping stone to closer access to career opportunities and the realization of their dreams. Despite facing many difficulties, you have shown a thirst for knowledge and a strong effort to overcome challenges, successfully completing your studies and research. Information is the lifeblood of social and cultural development. You are now equipped with the skills to manage information flows and grasp trends. This course also brings awareness that there are no longer barriers in a globalized society, and this encourages you to expand your development opportunities globally and join the Stirling student community in 120 countries. I am also very pleased that the collaboration between the two universities has yielded initial results. Our goal is to continue promoting the development of this program as one of the flagship collaborative activities of the two universities. This will lay the groundwork for further strategic cooperation between the two universities.

Newly graduated Master's student Nguyen Truong Quy, on behalf of all students, expressed gratitude to the teachers and the University: "This course has had a great spiritual significance for me personally, helping me overcome my own mental barriers and creating motivation for new plans in the future. Our initial achievements are thanks to the enthusiastic support and inspiration from the lecturers of Stirling University and the lecturers of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication."

The program is taught entirely in English and adheres to the rigorous standards of the University of Stirling. The graduation thesis is graded by three international professors to ensure fairness.

Many students shared that they initially faced numerous difficulties: language barriers, the challenge of absorbing academic knowledge, and the pressure of balancing studying and working. Furthermore, because the teaching method emphasizes independent thinking and work, requiring extensive reading and self-study, students were compelled to make significant efforts to change themselves. However, the results achieved were entirely worth the effort.

The majority of the students in the first cohort were managers in the fields of journalism and media, senior personnel in charge of communications at businesses, lecturers, and even people working in various professional fields but interested in and passionate about this field. The students were overjoyed on their graduation day.
