Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Pham Quang Minh expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador and the Algerian Embassy for choosing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as the venue for this important event. This is a valuable opportunity for young Vietnamese people to gain a deeper understanding of the rich and traditional cooperative relationship between Algeria and Vietnam.

Professor Pham Quang Minh shared: In the past, Vietnam and Algeria were two countries invaded and colonized by colonial regimes. The two nations bravely rose up to fight, overthrowing that rule and establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. Vietnam and Algeria built a close diplomatic relationship based on deep empathy in their respective struggles against French colonialism. On October 28, 1962, immediately after Algeria gained independence, the two countries officially established diplomatic relations. Since then, cooperation between the two countries has developed strongly in many fields: political, economic, cultural, and social.

Ambassador Mohamed Berrah of the Republic of Algeria to Vietnam summarized the milestones in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Professor Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University, delivered a speech at the anniversary ceremony.

Over the past 55 years, the two sides have regularly exchanged high-level delegations, and economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Algeria have consistently grown steadily. Numerous bilateral cooperation agreements have been implemented, along with 11 sessions of the Intergovernmental Committee of the two countries and many other mechanisms for people-to-people diplomacy… creating a solid foundation for the multifaceted friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Following Professor Pham Quang Minh's speech, Mr. Mohamed Berrah (Ambassador of the Republic of Algeria to Vietnam) also reviewed the main features of the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Ambassador emphasized that the relationship between the two countries is a strong, traditional friendship based on solidarity and mutual support.

Diplomatic representatives from various countries attended the commemoration ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, delegates enjoyed the film "Lotus Flower," a co-production between Vietnam and Algeria. The film revolves around the love story between an Algerian soldier named Ali and a Vietnamese girl named Lien during the resistance war against the French in Vietnam. The film conveys a message about love blossoming between people who always have hearts for their fellow human beings, no matter how brutal the war may be. "Lotus Flower" won third prize at the African Cinema Festival in Morocco.

In addition to the film screenings, there will also be a photo exhibition showcasing the 55-year journey of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Algeria at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
