On October 30, 2017, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Cooperation and Development Office and the Center for Educational Quality Assurance, met and worked with Mr. Frank Niedermeier (Center for Teaching and Research Quality Development, University of Potsdam).

The topic of the meeting was the University Quality Assessment Program according to AUN-QA standards. This program is part of the ASEAN-QA Project, funded by several agencies, including the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the University of Potsdam, and the ASEAN University Network (AUN). Its aim is to promote cooperation and improve the quality of training, research, and faculty and student exchange among universities in the ASEAN bloc. The program involves 32 Southeast Asian universities and runs from March 2017 to March 2018. At the end of the program, participating universities will report on their results achieved over the year. The three main activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are: (i) improving English proficiency for staff and lecturers, (ii) conducting online surveys on the teaching quality of lecturers, and (iii) innovating training programs.

Professor Pham Quang Minh emphasized that quality assurance plays a crucial role in the development strategy of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. One area of particular focus for the University is improving English proficiency for its staff, lecturers, and students. Along with two clubs, the “Lunch Box Club for English” and the “Master's Tea Club,” the University regularly offers English courses, fostering a movement to practice and use English in work, study, and research. The University also regularly organizes international conferences and promotes international publications. The Rector hopes that these activities will further strengthen and enhance the University's culture of quality.

The past year marked significant progress for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in its quality accreditation efforts. The Bachelor of Philosophy program received accreditation according to AUN standards, becoming the third program (after Linguistics and Oriental Studies) to achieve this. Additionally, the Bachelor of Vietnamese Studies and Psychology programs also received accreditation according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training, achieving positive results. The University also conducted peer evaluations for two other Bachelor's programs: the high-quality History program and the Sociology program. Bachelor's programs in the Faculty of Literature, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, the Faculty of Tourism, the Faculty of Anthropology, and the Faculty of Political Science are currently undergoing preparatory procedures for quality evaluation in 2017.
