University of Social Sciences and Humanities participates in ASEAN-QA Project

On October 30, 2017, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and representatives of the Department of Cooperation and Development, Center for Education Quality Assurance received and worked with Mr. Frank Niedermeier (Center for Development of Teaching and Research Quality, University of Potsdam).

The topic of the working session was the AUN-QA standard self-assessment training program in universities. The program is part of the ASEAN-QA project funded by many agencies, including the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Potsdam University and the ASEAN University Network (AUN). The purpose is to promote cooperation and improve the quality of training, research, and exchange of lecturers and students among universities in the ASEAN bloc. The program has the participation of 32 universities in Southeast Asia, lasting from March 2017 to March 2018. At the end of the program, the universities will report on the results obtained in 1 year. The three main groups of activities of the USSH are: (i): improving English proficiency for staff and lecturers, (ii) conducting online surveys on the teaching quality of lecturers, (iii) innovating the training program.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh emphasized that quality assessment is of great importance in the development strategy of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. One of the areas that the University pays special attention to is improving the English proficiency of staff, lecturers and students. Along with the two clubs "Lunch Box Club for English" and "Master's Tea Club", English courses are regularly opened by the University and have created a movement to practice and use English in work, study and research. The University also regularly organizes international seminars and promotes international publications. The President hopes that with the above activities, the University will increasingly affirm and improve its culture of quality.

The past year marked the progress of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in quality assessment. The Bachelor of Philosophy program was assessed according to AUN standards and is the third training program (after Linguistics and Oriental Studies). In addition, the Bachelor of Vietnamese Studies and the Bachelor of Psychology were also assessed according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training with good results. The University also conducted peer quality assessment of 02 other Bachelor of History programs and Bachelor of Sociology. The Bachelor of Literature programs, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, the Faculty of Tourism, the Faculty of Anthropology and the Faculty of Political Science are carrying out procedures to prepare for quality assessment in 2017.
