"Approachable, generous, and hospitable" are the most concise words that can describe the people of Yen Phong (Bac Ninh) and Dai Tu (Thai Nguyen) - the two localities that will welcome the volunteer students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities this summer.
On May 23-24, 2015, representatives of the Youth Union and Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities made a preliminary trip to Yen Phong district (Bac Ninh province) and Dai Tu district (Thai Nguyen province) to prepare for the 2015 summer volunteer plan. Yen Phong and Dai Tu are also the two localities where the teachers and students of the University of General Sciences – the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – evacuated during the fierce years of the war against the US. In the atmosphere of excitement leading up to the 70th anniversary of the university's tradition and the 20th anniversary of its founding, this year's volunteer activities have the meaning of "returning to the roots" – to the places that sheltered the predecessors of the current generation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities during their most difficult times. Specifically, in Dai Tu district, two teams of student volunteers will go to Van Tho and Hoang Nong communes, and in Yen Phong district, two teams of student volunteers will go to Yen Trung and Dung Liet communes. Each team is expected to have around 30-40 students, and the volunteer campaign will begin in early July.
