On November 21, 2018, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Vietnam Internet and Society Research Program (VPIS) and the Cooperation and Development Office, met and worked with a delegation from Facebook Asia-Pacific led by Ms. Jennifer Chan (Deputy Head of Legal Affairs).

During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh stated that Facebook is currently the most influential social network in Vietnam. Therefore, the Vietnam Internet and Society Research Program (VPIS) of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized numerous workshops on this topic, such as the workshop "Illegal Hate Speech and Solutions Towards a Safe and Sustainable Social Network Environment" and the proposal to develop a "Code of Conduct on Social Networks" in April 2017; the workshop "The Impact of Social Networks on User Psychology" in September 2017; and a research project on the impact of social networks on user psychology.

Ms. Jennifer Chan noted that there are many opportunities for collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and VPIS on educational programs to train students in social media skills in the future.

Professor Pham Quang Minh agreed with Jennifer Chan's proposal and argued that universities need to act as a bridge between stakeholders in the use of social media. Therefore, VPIS is ready to implement joint activities with Facebook such as organizing workshops, seminars, and joint research on topics such as building content policies on social media, digital connectivity, and digital citizenship… These activities will also contribute ideas to information and communication policy makers.

The Internet and Society Research Program of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is an interdisciplinary research project aimed at clarifying the impacts of the Internet on various aspects of life and society, and the reciprocal impacts of society on shaping the future development of the Internet from a social sciences and humanities perspective. The program includes the following topics: Internet & Life, Internet & Communication, Internet & Law - Public Administration, and Internet & Education.
