Receiving the delegation of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Foreign Trade (China)

On November 26, 2018, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and representatives of the Faculty of Linguistics, Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Office of Cooperation and Development received and worked with the delegation of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Foreign Trade led by Prof. Liu Jiandat (Vice Rector).

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh welcomed the delegation to visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. As one of the key units of VNU, the University is implementing an internationalization strategy through increasing international publications and expanding international relations. The University has signed memorandums of understanding with more than 300 international partners, of which Chinese partners account for the majority. The President said that there are many similarities between Vietnam and China that the two universities can take advantage of to implement practical cooperation in the future.

In response, Professor Liu Jiandat expressed his honor to be warmly welcomed by the USSH. He said that Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Foreign Trade signed a cooperation agreement with the USSH in 2012 and started sending students to study Vietnamese there in 2016. On that basis, he proposed some additional cooperation activities such as organizing other short-term courses on Vietnamese history, culture, economy, and society for Chinese students.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh agreed with the proposals of Prof. Luu Kien Dat. For reference, the Rector also introduced some joint training courses that the School co-organized with partners such as Stirling University and Nottingham University (UK), Zurich University (Switzerland), Toulouse II University (France).

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GUFS) was founded in 1956 through the merger of Guangzhou Foreign Language Institute and Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Trade. GUFS has 35,000 students, including 3,000 international students. GUFS offers 26 foreign languages ​​and has relationships with more than 400 partners from over 40 countries.
