On the afternoon of November 5, 2012, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector) received and held a working meeting with Mr. Richard Cowin, Political Counselor of the British Embassy.During the meeting, both sides focused on discussing the upcoming 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom. The British Embassy in Hanoi expressed its desire to cooperate with the University in organizing several activities to celebrate this event, including a presentation by the British Ambassador to faculty and students; a competition about the United Kingdom for students of the University and universities nationwide; and a scientific conference with the participation of scholars from both countries. Vice Rector Pham Quang Minh welcomed the ideas from the British Embassy, offered suggestions on the ideas presented by the Counselor, and proposed that both sides continue discussions to realize these ideas in 2013. Vietnam and the United Kingdom established full diplomatic relations in 1973. On September 8, 2010, the two countries signed the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership Declaration. Currently, relations between the two countries are further strengthened within the framework of relations between the two regional organizations, the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
