At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced the international cooperation programs of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, focusing on the International Development Studies major project jointly developed by the Faculty of International Studies, University College Cork (UCC, Ireland), and the Embassy of Ireland in Vietnam. After a period of designing the program framework, curriculum and reference materials, the major will be officially launched in September this year. Thereby, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities becomes the first educational institution in Vietnam to teach this major at the Bachelor's level.
On behalf of the Irish side, Dr. Jim Fitzpatrick highly appreciated the cooperative efforts between the USSH and Irish partners. He hoped that the above activities would continue to be implemented and promoted in the coming time. As a representative of the Irish government, Fitzpatrick Associates Consulting Company is ready to support activities to promote bilateral relations between Vietnam and Ireland. Dr. Jim Fitzpatrick also spent time discussing with Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh about the prospects for cooperation between the USSH and UCC in the future. Accordingly, next June, the University's President will visit UCC to discuss plans to develop a Master's program in International Development Studies.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has had many collaborations with Irish partners, especially with University College Cork. The University and UCC have co-organized a number of academic events such as the International Conference “International Cooperation for Rural Development in Vietnam: Linking Policy and Practice” in November 2016; “Urbanization and Development: Opportunities and Challenges for Vietnam in the 21st Century” in July 2017. In terms of cultural exchange, on January 26, 2018, the University coordinated with the Irish Embassy to organize a performance by the folk band Mick Moloney & Friends in front of 400 audiences at the 8th floor Hall of Building E.
