Korean Film Week

The program, organized by the Department of Oriental Studies, took place from October 5th to 9th, 2009. Over these five days, five films were screened. These films were translated and narrated by the students themselves, majoring in Korean Studies.

1. More than just a scandal.

2. First Snow of the Season

Kim Min, a high school student, moves to Kyoto with his father, a renowned professor and skilled potter. Young and energetic, everything is new and exciting for Min. One beautiful spring day, he coincidentally meets Nanae Sasaki at a temple and falls in love at first sight. When Min learns that Nanae also attends his school, he tries to win her heart. Although she initially seems distant, Nanae is moved by Min's sincerity, and they gradually develop a love despite the language barrier. They promise each other they will go to Seoul together and walk in the first snow of the season… But one day, Nanae suddenly disappears…

3. The baby and I

The film tells the story of Jun Su, a 19-year-old man who becomes the father of Woo Ram. It's a humorous tale about Jun Su's life since this "accident." From a mischievous student, Jun Su transforms into a responsible family man.

4. Destiny

This is an action film that tells the story of four young people, where friendship, loyalty, and betrayal are intertwined. Woo Min wants to escape from a global criminal gang. Do Wan wants to win back his ex-girlfriend. And Chul Jung's only concern is protecting and caring for his older sister. The three friends undertake a heist hoping to start a new life with the money, but in doing so, they become enemies of mafia boss Doo Man. With Kang Sup's guidance, they succeed in the heist.

However, Chul Jung became jealous of the close and sincere relationship Do Wan and Kang Sup had with Woo Min, and he betrayed his friends. Kang Sup was injured in the leg and became disabled. Do Wan relapsed into drug addiction, and Woo Min faced consequences after being caught by the police and imprisoned. However, he was soon released due to good behavior and rehabilitation.

Woo Min decided to forgive Chul Jung's betrayal and help Kang Sup and Do Wan escape the criminal gang along with the money they stole. However, Woo Min was surprised to find Kang Sup now penniless, Do Wan struggling with drug addiction, and Chul Jung becoming more devious by turning Do Wan into his gang's henchman. Above all, Woo Min had to find a way to escape his fate and the hopeless despair.

5. Marrying a Mafia Boss
