On the evening of October 30, 2009, at the 4th floor Hall of Building H, the Youth Union and the Faculty of Linguistics organized a seminar to advise students on learning methods and career orientation.
Participating in the discussion, in addition to teachers and students of the Faculty, there were also Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khang (Deputy Director of the Institute of Linguistics), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Tinh (Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Lexicography and Encyclopedia Magazine), Journalist Nguyen Van Binh (Deputy Director of VTC Digital Television Station), Journalist Tran Thu Hang (Editor-in-Chief of the Capital Women's Newspaper), Journalist-writer Nguyen Hong Thai (Secretary of the People's Police Newspaper).
The first part of the seminar was dedicated to consulting and discussing learning methods at university. Many questions and concerns of students of all courses, especially K54, about the training program, how to choose to register for courses, conditions for studying more or reducing the number of credits in each semester, how to study specific subjects, methods of reading books, listening to lectures, choosing scientific research topics... were answered by the teachers.
The second part of the discussion really heated up with students asking questions to the guests about career orientation, work experience and employment prospects after graduation.

In 2009, the Institute of Linguistics recruited 8 students and plans to recruit 10 more in 2010.
Journalism, publishing, radio and television are of great interest to many students. Journalists Nguyen Van Binh, Nguyen Hong Thai, and Tran Thu Hang not only answered students’ questions about journalism and journalism experience, but also confided and shared with students the feelings and thoughts of former linguistics students from when they first started their careers to when they became leaders of press agencies. At the same time, they promised to create all conditions to help students of the Linguistics Department get acquainted with journalism when they come to do internships and practice.
The seminar partly resolved students' concerns about learning methods and career prospects, deepened the relationship between teachers and students, created sympathy and sharing among generations of linguistics students, and strengthened the connection between students, training institutions and employers.
