On the evening of October 30, 2009, at the auditorium on the 4th floor of building H, the Student Union and the Student Association of the Faculty of Linguistics organized a seminar to advise students on study methods and career orientation.
In addition to faculty and students from the Department, the seminar was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khang (Deputy Director of the Institute of Linguistics), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Tinh (Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Lexicography and Encyclopedia), journalist Nguyen Van Binh (Deputy Director of VTC Digital Television), journalist Tran Thu Hang (Editor-in-Chief of the Capital Women's Newspaper), and journalist-writer Nguyen Hong Thai (editorial secretary of the People's Police Newspaper).

The first part of the seminar was dedicated to advising and discussing study methods at university. Many questions and concerns from students of all years, especially those from K54, regarding the training program, how to choose and register for courses, conditions for taking extra courses or reducing the number of credits in each semester, methods of studying specific subjects, methods of reading books, listening to lectures, choosing scientific research topics, etc., were answered by the lecturers.
The second part of the seminar really heated up with students asking the guest speakers questions about career orientation, work experience, and employment prospects after graduation.

In 2009, the Institute of Linguistics recruited 8 students and plans to recruit an additional 10 in 2010.
Journalism, publishing, and broadcasting are fields of great interest to many students. Journalists Nguyen Van Binh, Nguyen Hong Thai, and Tran Thu Hang not only answered students' questions about journalism and journalistic experience but also shared their feelings and thoughts as former linguistics students, from their early days in the profession to becoming leaders of media organizations. They also promised to create all the necessary conditions to help linguistics students familiarize themselves with journalism during their internships and practical training.
The seminar helped alleviate some of the students' concerns about learning methods and career prospects, deepened the teacher-student relationship, fostered empathy and sharing among generations of linguistics students, and strengthened the connection between students, training institutions, and employers.
