This morning, December 15, 2010, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held an awards ceremony to honor "Outstanding Young People of 2010," including 96 students, 4 doctoral candidates, and 19 young staff members.This is an annual event to recognize and commend students, trainees, researchers, and young staff members who have achieved high results in their studies and scientific research, and who have made significant contributions to the Youth Union movement and student affairs. During this period, the University also had 9 students and 4 young staff members recognized as outstanding young people at the Hanoi National University level, and 1 student received a Certificate of Merit from the Director of Hanoi National University. At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department - presented an overview of the achievements in academics, scientific research, and social activities of the outstanding young people of 2010. Representing the outstanding young staff members, Mr. Tran Bach Hieu (Lecturer in the Political Science Department) reported on his achievements in teaching and scientific research during the 2009-2010 academic year. As a young lecturer, Mr. Tran Bach Hieu has been working at the university for 3 years. In particular, during the two years of 2009 and 2010, Mr. Tran Bach Hieu published 29 articles in specialized journals and conference proceedings both domestically and internationally, and co-authored two books, one in English and one in Vietnamese. In addition, Mr. Tran Bach Hieu also participated in one project and one scientific research topic.

Representing the outstanding young students, Tran Thi Phuong (K52 - International Studies) also reported on her achievements. In the 2009-2010 academic year, Tran Thi Phuong achieved a GPA of 3.78. Not only did she strive for academic excellence, but Phuong also actively participated in class activities, student union activities, and volunteer work. Recently, Tran Thi Phuong was honored with the title of Outstanding Young Student at the Vietnam National University level and was the only student from the University to receive a commendation from the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. On behalf of the University leadership, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University - congratulated and praised the outstanding young students of 2010. The Rector emphasized: The achievements of the University in the past year were made possible thanks to the special contributions of these outstanding young students, and expressed hope that they would continue to maintain their titles and that more staff, students, and trainees would achieve the title of Outstanding Young Student. The professor also suggested that in the coming period, the emulation movement to become outstanding young people should focus on the following tasks: - With the leading role of the Youth Union and Student Association, along with the support of the Political and Student Affairs Department and other functional departments, the youth of the University need to strive to better implement the discipline and order of the University. - In the 2010-2011 academic year, the youth of the University need to focus on more innovations in learning, research, and group activities. - Outstanding young people must be the core and pillar to motivate members in their units to strive to have more outstanding young people, contributing to the building and development of the University. - Faculties, Departments, and the Youth Union and Student Association need to pay more attention to and promptly evaluate, reward, and encourage young staff and students with outstanding achievements that deserve recognition. - Party committees at all levels should pay attention to and create favorable conditions for young cadres and students to strive to join the ranks of the Party. In the 2010-2011 academic year, the emulation movement to achieve the title of outstanding young person of the University will be further expanded, contributing to improving the quality of training, prestige, and position of the University in the new development phase.
