(Dantri.com) Developing Party membership among students and young cadres is a key activity of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Thanks to the introduction and guidance of the Youth Union branches and Party branches at all levels, young Party members have increasingly matured and become the core of the overall movement. However, the new context also poses many challenges that require innovation in this work. These are the main points that Mr. Tran Bach Hieu, Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared with ussh.

Comrade, what is the role of Party development among cadres and students in the activities of the Youth Union and the Student Association of the University?

Party development among students and young staff is one of the five key tasks of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This is also an area where the Youth Union has achieved many successes over the years. Each year, the Youth Union recommends approximately 50 students and young staff members for Party membership, the majority of whom are student members.

This is arguably a very important activity for the Party branches, the Party Committee of the University, and the Youth Union organization. Young Party members will be selected from outstanding Youth Union members who possess good qualities and a commitment to contributing to the common good. Upon becoming young Party members, they will become the core of the Youth Union movement, continuing their self-cultivation and training to shoulder greater responsibilities. They serve as role models, leaders, and inspire others, becoming a crucial resource in building the team of any organization or collective. If this work is done well, it will improve the quality of Party members and the team, laying the foundation for the organization's development.

- Could you please tell us about the progress of this work over the past period?

For many years, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has had a long tradition of political and ideological education for its members and Party development. This activity is carried out meticulously, systematically, and on a wide scale, across all grassroots branches and sub-branches. The process is very strict and serious. Branches monitor, identify, and nurture outstanding members throughout the entire process. Opportunities are open to all members who aspire to join the Party. The evaluation is also comprehensive. From the branch and sub-branch levels to the University Youth Union, there are vertical information channels, as well as information channels of the Party branches. These two channels work together to evaluate members and propose recommendations to the University Party Committee for consideration.

In addition, propaganda activities among youth union members regarding the noble ideals of the Party organization, the responsibilities of Party members, and the responsibilities of the younger generation towards the country, the school, and the collective are carried out through various rich forms and activities. On this foundation, Party development activities among student and staff union members become easier and more convenient. We don't have to spend too much effort searching for outstanding individuals because the students themselves already have a very good awareness of their responsibilities and the opportunities for self-development and refinement when they are part of the Party organization.

- What are your comments on the outstanding union members recommended for Party membership at the Party Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities?

Studying and training in a university environment, especially at a leading university in the country for research and training in social sciences and humanities, the outstanding members of the university's Youth Union possess distinctive characteristics, which can be called a unique identity, compared to youth union members in other units and organizations.

First and foremost, you all have a great sense of pride in your university, your field of study, and the responsibility of young people pursuing social sciences and humanities towards society and the country. You have clear ideals and aspirations. Your demeanor, lifestyle, and behavior reflect positive qualities such as enthusiasm, effort, honesty, a constructive spirit, tact, empathy, and sharing… These are the qualities of students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities that the University's Youth Union is striving to cultivate and nurture.

Secondly, these are students with good academic performance, who are proactive and enjoy participating in scientific research. This is also a very unique characteristic of students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, an environment that emphasizes learning, teaching combined with research.

Thirdly, they are individuals who enjoy great trust from their classmates and the youth union they belong to. They also demonstrate their proactive and pioneering spirit in many collective activities. This is very important for young party members.

- Currently, the Youth Union and Youth Association movements in general, and Party development work in particular, are facing difficulties: the phenomenon of "fading" ideals among young people; movement activities not truly attracting the interest and attention of young Youth Union and Party members... Could you share your perspective on this?

This is also a reality, a difficulty that the Youth Union and Associations are facing. There are many reasons. The current environment is highly volatile: globalization, integration, economic and technological development, the multidimensionality of information, changes in life values, the increasing emphasis on individual ego, and a lack of close connection between individuals and organizations/collectives… The current environment makes it easier for young people to access new things and follow trends, but at the same time, it makes it more difficult to maintain their own identity and persevere in pursuing their ideals. Many young people are losing their direction, living without ideals, or wanting to detach themselves from political life, misunderstanding the Party and the Youth Union/Association.

Indeed, the activities of the Youth Union and Student Association also face challenges in innovating their operations to be more effective and practical; attracting the attention of young members; and truly understanding their thoughts and needs in order to provide appropriate support. Similarly, raising awareness about the Party, the responsibilities and benefits of individual members when standing in the Party ranks requires diverse approaches. Avoiding dogmatism, dryness, or coercion, instead, various forms of expression are needed so that student members feel that the Party's ideals are not too distant, but rather vibrant and close to their daily lives, studies, and training. This information needs to be naturally absorbed into the thoughts of young people. For example, the competition to learn about Ho Chi Minh's ideology in a theatrical format at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities helped to convey and disseminate content that might otherwise seem difficult and dry, making it engaging, interesting, and easily accessible.

- What new directions will Party development work among students and young cadres take in the near future?

Many years ago, after a period of observation and evaluation, students were typically only recommended for Party membership by their third year of study. However, by the end of their one-year probationary period, these young Party members had already completed their studies at the university, leaving them with few opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and contribute to the organization. To overcome this situation, in recent years, Party branches have been monitoring and admitting outstanding Youth Union members from their first and second years, allowing them to mature early and dedicate more time to the Youth Union and the Party.

Another factor that will receive more attention in the coming period is that Party committees, branches, and Youth Union organizations should have specific plans and create conditions for young Party members to truly develop their abilities and pioneering spirit within the collective. We have done well in selecting and admitting outstanding Youth Union members, and have built a quality "input" source for young Party members. But this does not mean that they can stop after becoming official Party members. They need to be trusted and given specific tasks. For example, young cadres must improve their professional skills, research capabilities, standardize their academic qualifications, demonstrate initiative and creativity in their work, and cultivate ethical conduct. Students need to continue setting new goals in their studies and extracurricular activities to be worthy of their role as Party members.

Thank you for your comments.
