Breakthrough in team building
Identifying high-quality, highly qualified human resources as a key factor and strategy for the development of the school, the Party Committee of the school has issued a conclusion on "Promoting training and fostering of staff towards international standards" to guide the implementation of many positive policies, focusing on strong investment in staff development activities. Each year, nearly 200 staff go abroad to teach, study and research. Within the framework of international training programs, the school has sent dozens of lecturers to study abroad to improve their foreign language skills and professional and management capacity, and rewarded staff with high achievements in scientific research, especially international publications. Many preferential policies have been implemented, creating conditions for young staff to quickly standardize their doctoral degrees and improve their professional capacity.
Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh (Party Secretary, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and the Ambassador of the French RepublicJean-Noël Poirier shared the joy with Associate Professor Dang Thi Hanh and teachers of the School, on the occasion of teacher Dang Thi Hanh being recognized.French Government's Academic Palm Medal, February 2013.
The university currently has 524 lecturers, of which 95.5% have postgraduate degrees. More than 54% of lecturers have doctoral degrees, 96 are professors and associate professors (accounting for nearly 30% of the total number of lecturers). There are 103 lecturers who are doing research and 16 lecturers who are graduate students. The proportion of staff with postgraduate degrees and scientific titles has exceeded the target set by the 26th Congress of the University Party Committee, and is a high proportion for a university in Vietnam today.
Pioneering innovation in training activities
With its tradition and reputation as the leading training institution in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, the School has trained thousands of students in many majors that are its strengths such as History, Literature, Philosophy, Linguistics, etc. Many famous political activists and scientists of the country have studied, trained and matured from this school. The School's students are present in all corners of the country and many have become founders of training institutions and research institutes. The School is aware of its pioneering role in training activities to always have timely innovations according to the general development trend of world education and training.
The most notable success of the school in recent years has been the conversion of the year-based training method to credit-based training at all levels. Learners have affirmed their central role in the training process. Training management activities have become more flexible, and the ability to access international training standards has been promoted. Up to now, credit-based training has really gone into depth and has had a positive effect in improving training quality. In the first four courses of credit-based training (from 2007 to 2010), 400 students graduated early from one semester to one academic year, the rate of on-time graduation reached over 85%, and the rate of students graduating with good grades or higher reached 90%. Each year, there are from 500 to 600 foreign students studying.
In addition to continuing to open new training programs according to social needs, the Party Committee of the school also advocates developing more high-quality training programs, gradually reaching international standards, and expanding international joint training programs. In the period 2010-2015, the scale of doctoral training and foreign students increased sharply. Each year, the school trains about 140 doctoral students, including about 20 foreign students. The proportion of postgraduate training scale to the total scale of regular training is about 37%. This ratio is gradually approaching the standard of a research university.
Training quality assessment is also a field in which the School has pioneered and early promoted the effectiveness of this activity in training. In addition to participating in the assessment and achieving national quality standards, the School has also initially implemented the assessment of a number of training programs according to the standards of the Association of Southeast Asian Universities (AUN). In 2013, the School completed the assessment of the Bachelor of Linguistics program according to AUN standards and prepared to implement the assessment of the Oriental Studies major. This is a new step with high determination to open up opportunities to achieve regional and international quality standards in the School's training activities in the near future.
