• Building a theoretical framework on regional integration with many aspects: subjects, methods, motivations, contents and levels. At the same time, clarifying the conditions and practical foundations leading to the birth of MERCOSUR;
• Analyze the content, impact and explain the issues of MERCOSUR regional integration: institutionalization of integration, intra-bloc economic integration, extra-bloc economic and trade relations and other integration issues;
• Evaluate the trend of regional integration of MERCOSUR and make some comparisons, draw lessons for Vietnam and ASEAN.

12. Practical application:

• The thesis can be used as a reference for research or teaching on the Latin American region, regional integration in general and MERCOSUR in particular;
• The thesis can also become a reference document for policy makers of Vietnam in particular and ASEAN in general on regional integration issues;
• Last but not least, the thesis, when completed, will help raise a more complete and updated awareness of issues related to regional integration, especially of developing countries today.

• Analyzing the MERCOSUR integration's process in four main directions: institutionalization of the bloc, intra-bloc economic integration, extra-bloc economic – trade relations, other integration issues; and its impacts on the bloc as a whole as well as its member states;
• Assesing the trend of MERCOSUR's integration, making a comparition between MERCOSUR and ASEAN and suggesting some experience lessons from the case of MERCOSUR.

• The thesis can be served as reference for studying and teaching on Latin American in general and on regional integration within MERCOSUR in particular;
• The thesis can be served as reference for Vietnamese and ASEAN's policy makers on the field of regional integration.
