3. Main results and conclusions
3.1. Main results
Today's youth value most highly: personal safety; trustworthiness; fairness and equality; care and concern; and independent thinking. They exhibit an average level of pro-social behavior. Law-abiding behaviors are the most prevalent among young people, while charitable acts are the least common.
- The values of tolerance, universality of nature, caring, tradition, and humility are most strongly correlated with pro-social behavior.
- Values such as tolerance; universality of nature; humility; social safety; tradition; achievement; and stimulation/exploration are likely to predict/promote socially supportive behavior.
- In the process of values guiding and directing prosocial behavior, numerous subjective and objective psychological and social variables can influence this relationship, acting as mediating variables (attitudes towards helping others; effective ego) or as moderating variables (gender; residential area; youth demographic; age; religion; empathy; attitudes towards helping others; effective ego and self-control).
3.2. Conclusion
- The dissertation has made certain contributions to the theoretical basis of the research problem. Several international scales have also been adapted to the Vietnamese youth population and have yielded promising initial results.
- The thesis has also developed a theoretical framework for analyzing the relationship between values and prosocial behavior among young people, contributing further to the knowledge and understanding of this research field, which, while not new globally, is quite novel in Vietnam.
- The research findings of this dissertation can be applied to the development of educational content and programs on positive values and behaviors for young people.
