1. Purpose and research objects of the thesis

1.1. Research purpose

Based on theoretical research and the current situation of communication skills in learning activities of Khmer students, studying the factors affecting the current situation and determining the relationship between communication skills in learning activities and learning outcomes of Khmer students, the thesis proposes some measures to improve communication skills in classroom learning activities for Khmer students.

1.2.  Research object

Expression and level of communication skills in classroom learning activities of Khmer students.

3. Main results and conclusions

3.1. Main results

3.1.1. In theory

Research on communication skills in learning activities of Khmer students provides more scientific and practical basis for the field of educational psychology and ethnic psychology. The thesis has systematized the research on communication skills in learning activities of students, built the concepts of tools, theoretical framework on the manifestations of communication skills in learning activities in class and pointed out the factors affecting communication skills in learning activities of Khmer students.

3.1.2. In practice

- The analysis results of 426 Khmer students studying at 3 universities in the Mekong Delta region show that the characteristic of communication skills in classroom learning activities in Khmer students is that they have a high concentration of senses to listen and take notes on learning content, but are limited in the ability to express learning content verbally when interacting with teachers and friends in groups and in class. Applying the cluster analysis method shows that there are 3 groups of Khmer students with low, medium and high levels of communication skills in learning activities with distinct characteristics, in which the proportion of students with low communication skills in learning activities accounts for nearly 1/3.

- There are 4 factors: Awareness and Learning Motivation of Khmer students, Instructor's encouragement and Learning conditions affecting communication skills in classroom learning activities of Khmer students, in which learning motivation is the strongest factor.

- Discovering communication skills in classroom learning activities of Khmer students is considered a contributing factor to change the learning outcomes of Khmer students.

- From the results of theoretical and practical research, the thesis has proposed 5 measures to improve communication skills in classroom learning activities of Khmer students.

3.2. Conclusion

The thesis has reviewed domestic and foreign studies on communication skills in students' learning activities. Based on inheriting and systematizing theoretical issues from previous research works, the thesis clarifies the concepts of tools related to communication skills in Khmer students' classroom learning activities.

The results of the practical research have shown the current status and level of communication skills in learning activities of Khmer students and some related factors such as major, year of study, position in the classroom, awareness, motivation to learn, encouragement from teachers and learning conditions. If Khmer students have good communication skills in learning activities, it will have a positive impact on students' learning outcomes. Finally, the thesis has proposed measures to improve communication skills in classroom learning activities of Khmer students.

3.1. Major results

3.1.1. Theoretical findings

Studying communication skills in learning activities of Khmer students has added scientific and practical fundamentals to the field of educational psychology and ethnic psychology. The thesis systematized previous studies on communication skills in students' learning activities, constructed conceptual tools, developed a theoretical framework on signs of academic communication skills in the schools and identified factors affecting Khmer students' communication skills in learning activities.

3.1.2. Practical findings

- Results of analyzing information provided by 426 Khmer students of 3 universities in the Mekong Delta participating in the study showed that communication skills in classroom learning activities of Khmer students had high concentration of senses on listening and taking notes, but limited in expressing academic contents verbally when interacting with tutors and classmates on the classroom. The cluster analysis shows that there were 3 groups of Khmer students with low, medium and high academic communication skills. Each group had unique characteristics on academic communication skills. created, students with the low level of academic communication skills extracted for nearly one third.

- There were 4 factors including Awareness and Learning Motivation of Khmer students, Lecturer Encouragement and Learning Conditions that affected Khmer students' communication skills in classroom learning activities, among which the Learning Motivation had the strongest impact.

- Communication skills in Khmer students' classroom learning activities were considered contributing to the change of learning outcomes of Khmer students.

- From theoretical and practical research results, the thesis has proposed 4 methods to improve communication skills in classroom learning activities for Khmer students.

3.2. Conclusions

The thesis reviewed domestic and foreign studies on academic communication skills of students. Inheriting and systematizing theoretical issues from previous studies, the thesis explains the conceptual and theoretical frameworks related to Khmer students' communication skills in classroom learning activities.

The practical research results show Khmer students' expression and levels of communication skills in classroom learning activities and related factors including Khmer students' majors, year of study, positions in the classroom, awareness and learning motivation, tutor encouragement and learning conditions. If Khmer students have good communication skills in classroom learning activities, these skills will have a positive impact on their learning outcomes. Finally, the thesis has proposed methods to improve communication skills in classroom learning activities for Khmer students.
