11. Summary of new results of the thesis:
(1) The thesis has systematized the theories on children's happiness in the world and added to the theoretical research system that has only begun to be studied in Vietnam in recent years. An overview of studies on the relationship between the implementation of the right to participate of secondary school students in school and their happiness shows that there have been a number of studies on this issue in the world. The research results all show that children's participation is related to children's happiness. However, these studies have not mentioned the implementation of children's right to participate in relation to the feeling of happiness at school as well as the general feeling of happiness of children in life.
The concept of students' sense of happiness is considered on two levels: (1) children's general sense of happiness is approached according to the theoretical model of Diener and colleagues including: satisfaction with life, many positive emotions and few negative emotions (2) satisfaction with school.
The theoretical model of the thesis is built on the relationship between the implementation of children's participation rights at school and children's sense of happiness. The relationship between the implementation of children's participation rights at school and children's sense of happiness is the close connection between the actions and behaviors that realize the regulations on children's participation rights at school and their subjective positive psychological state expressed in the experience of positive emotions that are more dominant than negative emotions and satisfaction with life in general and with school in particular in some way.
Based on the inheritance and systematization of studies in the world and in Vietnam on the feeling of happiness is the experience of many positive emotions, few negative emotions and satisfaction with school (3-component happiness) and general satisfaction with school. Factors such as teachers' facilitation, friends' support, and students' personal factors also affect their feeling of happiness at school.
The thesis has highlighted research trends on children and students' participation in school activities. Most of the research results show that children's participation affects children's sense of happiness.
In practice
- The implementation of students' right to participate in schools is still limited, mainly at the level of students being provided with information. The content of participating in activities or expressing opinions is still very limited. This affects the students' sense of happiness when participating in activities to exercise their right to participate in schools and the relationship between these two contents.
- The research results also show that exercising students' right to participate at school brings them many positive emotions when participating.
- There is a relationship between the implementation of children's participation rights in secondary schools and their feelings of happiness, but the relationship is at a moderate and weak level.
- There is no difference in the level of correlation between the implementation of children's participation rights and the feeling of school happiness and the feeling of general happiness in life.
- Groups of school-related factors (teachers, friends, learning attitudes...) have significantly higher predictions for feelings of happiness at school.
- Students' feelings of happiness at school depend on many different factors, of which the implementation of children's participation rights is just one of the factors that affect students' feelings of happiness.
- The results of practical research show a very interesting aspect that the implementation of the right to participate does not directly affect the happiness of students at school, but the research results show that intermediary factors along with the implementation of children's right to participate such as self-evaluation, recognition, support from teachers, friends will help children have a general feeling of happiness in life as well as a greater feeling of happiness at school.
- There is no difference in the feeling of happiness when exercising the right to participate in school between the groups of students in public and private schools.
12. Practical application:
The research results of the thesis can be used as a useful reference for researchers on child psychology, children's rights and some contents that can be applied in schools to help children be happier when going to school.
13. Further research directions:
- The research results also open up a new research approach on students' sense of happiness at school, when the factors affecting this need to be considered in a more diverse and comprehensive way. Because students' sense of happiness at school is influenced and governed by many different factors.
