After six weeks of intense competition, the SJC Open Cup 2024, an expanded football tournament for the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, has crowned its champion. In its 12th season, the tournament left a lasting impression in terms of both scale and organization.
On the morning of May 19th, the final match of the SJC Open Cup 2024 football tournament took place at the AKKA football complex (Hoang Mai, Hanoi) between SJC 2 and Tien Phong. With their experience and strong performance throughout the season, the orange-shirted team continued their dominant performance against SJC 2. After 60 minutes of play, Tien Phong won 6-2 against the home team.
This is not the first time Tien Phong Newspaper has achieved a "devastating" victory at the SJC Open Cup 2024. They previously defeated IJC - AJC (Institute of Journalism, Academy of Journalism and Communication) 8-3 in the quarterfinals, and FOC - DNU (Faculty of Communication, Dai Nam University) 3-1 in the semifinals.
The final match between Tien Phong Newspaper (in orange) and SJC 2 ended with a decisive 6-2 victory.
Tien Phong Newspaper's success is thanks to its well-rounded and experienced squad, highlighted by a consistently effective attacking line. Do Ngoc Tuan, the leading player in Tien Phong Newspaper's attack, won the top scorer title with 8 goals throughout the season.
On the same day, the third-place match also took place between the TTĐTTH 24h (24h General Information Website) and FOC - DNU (Faculty of Communication, Dai Nam University). In the end, TTĐTTH 24h won with a score of 7-2.
Immediately after the final match, the closing ceremony and awards presentation for outstanding teams and individuals of the SJC Open Cup 2024 took place at the AKKA football complex. Attending and presenting the awards was Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training - Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Besides the overwhelming victories of the new champion, Tien Phong Newspaper, the SJC Open Cup also witnessed many other goal-scoring sprees in the rounds.
FOC - DNU (Faculty of Communication, Dai Nam University) witnessed the most decisive victories in the tournament. This team "annihilated" two representatives of the host country with a 9-3 victory against SJC 1 in the group stage and a 9-0 win against the SJC Alumni team in the quarterfinals. In the third-place match, FOC continued to be involved in a game with a large margin, but this time they were the victims in the rematch against TTĐTTH 24h, suffering a 2-7 defeat.

The predecessor of the SJC Open Cup was the Four-Team Cup, a traditional tournament with 11 previous editions organized by the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training. Starting with just four teams of students from the Institute, the tournament has continuously grown and become more professional in both scale and organization.
Prior to the 2024 season, the Four-Team Cup had seasons with 6 teams and 8 teams, including representatives from outside the Institute. The SJC Open Cup 2024 was the largest-scale tournament with 12 participating representatives, including: 3 teams from the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training; Voice of Vietnam (VOV); Tien Phong Newspaper; Media21Lab Company; 24H News - General Information Website; Institute of Journalism - Academy of Journalism and Communication; Faculty of Communication and Foreign Culture - Diplomatic Academy; Faculty of Communication - Dai Nam University; Faculty of Multimedia - Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology; Faculty of Creative Writing and Journalism - University of Culture.
The traditional name, Four-Team Cup, has also been changed to SJC Open Cup to better reflect the scale of the tournament.
The tournament's large scale and prestige are further demonstrated by the support and partnership of its sponsors. These include many large companies and businesses such as YODY Fashion Joint Stock Company, Media 21 Trading and Media Joint Stock Company, etc. The support and collaboration of media partners such as 24h General Information Website, Golive.vn, and Bóng đá Plus Magazine also help to spread the tournament's image widely.
Dr. Phan Van Kien presented flowers and gifts to thank the sponsors and partners of the tournament.
At the SJC Open Cup 2024, students from the Institute worked together to plan the event, solicit sponsorships, design the branding, organize matches, and handle media relations throughout the season. The organizing committee was also established and systematically assigned, with a Head of the Organizing Committee and specialized committees such as the External Relations, Communications, and Logistics committees. Beyond being just a sporting event, the tournament became a place for students of the Institute of Journalism to learn and gain practical experience.
The entire organization of the SJC Open Cup 2024 was handled by students from the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training.
