September University-wide Meeting: Effectively Utilizing Resources to Expand Learning, Research, and Creative Spaces for Faculty, Staff, and Students

On the afternoon of September 5, 2022, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan chaired the monthly meeting of the entire school for September 2022. Attending the meeting were the Vice Principals, Secretaries of the Party branches, Heads of the school's affiliated units, and leaders of the various student organizations.

In his opening remarks, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan congratulated the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities on successfully organizing the opening ceremony for the 2022-2023 academic year, which was vibrant and exciting. In the atmosphere of the nationwide back-to-school season, September also marks the beginning of a new academic year for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with renewed vigor, new opportunities, and new victories.

MSc. Nguyen Van Thuy (Head of Administration and General Affairs Department) presented a summary report on August's work across all aspects: Party work, organization, and associations; training: enrollment of regular undergraduate students, registration for postgraduate enrollment in the second phase, and the first phase of National Defense and Security education for over 1200 students; quality assurance: completion of self-assessment reports for several training programs, preparation of external evaluation dossiers for several training programs, etc.; scientific research, facilities, and finance: completion of the set plan, accelerated progress on repair projects, and timely completion in September to welcome students back to school after the summer break, etc. Some key tasks for September include: conducting the congresses of Party branches for the 2022-2025 term, and consolidating leadership and management personnel in the faculties/departments of the school. Completing the 2022 regular university admissions process, welcoming first-year students and inaugurating the 2022-2023 academic year; organizing international scientific conferences for young staff and postgraduate students; finalizing the system of documents on scientific research; continuing to sign cooperation agreements with universities in Vietnam and abroad; fundamentally completing the repair and upgrading of facilities;...

Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong shared and noted some additional information regarding training and quality assurance: The Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Television is preparing to launch a website for teaching Vietnamese to foreigners, celebrating September 8th as Vietnamese Language Appreciation Day, and developing several new training programs; the 2022 regular university enrollment process must be completed by September 15th, therefore, teachers in the faculties/departments should continue to communicate about the programs to ensure that enrollment achieves both quantity and quality.

Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong highlighted several key tasks in training, quality assurance, and communication that need to be focused on in September.

Speaking at the briefing conference, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong emphasized that the 2022-2023 academic year will be closely linked to training, scientific research, and international publications. This will not only support the university's staff and researchers in perfecting their training processes and standardizing their qualifications, but also identify high-quality research topics and projects to invest in, following the philosophy of "nurturing excellence" and increasing the university's international publication index. In the near future, the university will soon issue regulations related to scientific research: establishing an Ethics Committee and new regulations for student scientific research. Regarding cooperation and development: in September, efforts will be intensified to sign cooperation agreements with businesses in Hanoi and other provinces.

Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh stated that in September, the construction and deployment of the One-Stop Shop software system will be completed to support staff and students, reducing the burden of administrative procedures that previously required in-person submissions by shifting to online forms. This will save costs and travel time while improving the efficiency of administrative procedures. The goal for September is to fundamentally complete the repair and upgrade of the wifi system to best serve the teaching and learning needs of lecturers and students.
Representatives from various departments and affiliated units engaged in open discussions and put forward several proposals to effectively carry out tasks in September and the following months of the new school year, demonstrating a high level of consensus and determination to successfully complete the tasks of the 2022-2023 school year.

Based on the discussions with representatives from various departments, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan concluded with several key tasks for September:

- Based on the objectives set out in the 2021-2023 academic year summary conference and the overall school plan, faculties/departments should promptly develop, adjust, and finalize the 2022-2023 academic year program accordingly.

- Unit leaders are paying attention to rectifying administrative work, ensuring compliance with regulations on working hours for officials, especially for administrative staff.

- Assign the Cooperation and Development Department as the focal point, with relevant units coordinating to review and develop mechanisms and propose methods for implementing support in procedures, management, and professional activities to facilitate international scholars and experts in teaching and research, support staff, promote cooperation in training and scientific research; and improve foreign language skills for staff, lecturers, and students.

- The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will be given priority in developing a creative space for social sciences and humanities in Hoa Lac, emphasizing Archaeology, Creative Culture, Digital Media, Modern Art, and the Vietnamese Language. Therefore, relevant faculties/departments need to proactively develop and propose programs and projects in which they have strengths and keep up with trends.

- Focus on successfully completing the 2022 undergraduate admissions process and the second round of postgraduate admissions.

- The Administrative and General Affairs Department is urging and accelerating the completion of repairs to ensure that when students return after the summer break, the campus is spacious, clean, and convenient, especially the students' self-study space, and that the wifi system is functioning properly.
