Overview of the meeting of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in December 2024
At the December meeting, on behalf of the School Board of Directors, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan officially presented the Decision of the State Council of Professors recognizing 02 lecturers who met the standards for the title of Professor: Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung; 02 lecturers who met the standards for the title of Associate Professor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Giang; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phuong Anh; presented the decision to appoint Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Huong Lan (currently Deputy Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation - National Economics University) to hold the position of Director of the Institute of Policy and Management (IPAM).

Principal Hoang Anh Tuan sent a bouquet of flowers to thank Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong for completing her duties as head of the Institute of Policy and Management during the time of perfecting the Institute's leadership position.
Principal Hoang Anh Tuan added: From 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has selected VNU-USSH as the only unit in Vietnam to be in charge of the professional issues of training and teaching Vietnamese language and spreading Vietnamese culture to overseas Vietnamese. This is an honor, affirming the prestige and brand of the School in teaching Vietnamese language to overseas Vietnamese around the world.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung emotionally shared: I became a staff member of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a "predestined fate". After nearly 40 years of working and being attached, to me, Hanoi University of Humanities has always been my second home, where I can do the job that I love, be given the conditions to develop my expertise and pursue my passion for scientific research. The joy like today is a recognition of my own efforts, but also the result of the enthusiastic help and companionship of the School's Board of Directors, functional department staff, colleagues and students. And this achievement also reminds me to continue to try to contribute more to the overall development of the School.

Officially taking on the role of Director of the Institute of Policy and Management, a research center under the University, Associate Professor, Dr. Huong Lan emotionally expressed: I am fortunate to have collaborated and been associated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for a long time as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Management Sciences and participated in many seminars, discussions, and projects on science and technology, startups, and innovation organized by the University. Today, I am again trusted by the Board of Directors to officially become a staff member of the university with a rich tradition, a leading position in Vietnam, and gradually affirming its international reputation. With a professional, standardized, academic, but also very humane, friendly, and open environment at Hanoi National University of Social Sciences and Humanities, I will certainly quickly integrate and contribute to the overall development of the University.

Also at the final meeting of 2024, delegates discussed a number of issues related to finance, training, scientific research, publishing, and international publication.
Representative of the Planning and Finance Department, Ms. Kim Thi Diep Ha (Head of Department) reminded heads of units about the progress of completing the Internal Expenditure Regulations for 2025 and completing the settlement records for 2024. Head of the Planning and Finance Department shared: Currently, the debt of tuition fees is very serious. After today's meeting, the School will notify students in writing of debt reminders and tuition fee payment extensions. After the above deadline, if students/trainees do not pay, the School will take action according to regulations.
MSc. Kim Thi Diep Ha notes: All settlement documents must be completed and sent to the Planning and Finance Department before December 16, 2025.
MSc. Nguyen Van Thuy informed: In December, the University will establish a working group to conduct a general inventory of assets to report to VNU, so we respectfully request that all units coordinate, conduct a count, and review the entire quantity, function, and efficiency of use of all assets and equipment so that the Administration - General Department has a basis to develop a plan for timely procurement, replacement, and repair.
Dr. Trinh Van Dinh (Head of Research Management Department) said that the list of Library has been approved by the Board of Directors. He requested that faculties pay attention so that the manuscript compilation work can be completed on schedule and with the highest quality.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien (Deputy Head of the Faculty of Literature) shared about the current reality of postgraduate training: students who were admitted to the first round of postgraduate training (from April) had to wait until the second round of admission was completed before starting the semester. Thus, students had to wait quite a long time after the summer break. Therefore, I respectfully request that the School consider starting the first semester for postgraduate students earlier to speed up the learning progress and suit the needs of students.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh (Head of the Faculty of Linguistics) suggested that the School consider and find a solution on how to recognize instructors because with a large number of PhD students, if applying the current regulations, it would be very difficult to assign instructors.
Sharing some difficulties of units in postgraduate training, Vice Principal Dang Thi Thu Huong acknowledged and accepted all comments, requested the training department to research and advise the Board of Directors on solutions, and at the same time proposed to VNU to have a specific and flexible mechanism to meet the practical situation.
Updating information on the HEMIS portal of the Ministry of Education and Training 2025 involves many indicators, which are mandatory for all training institutions to complete before January 25, 2025. At the same time, this is also an important basis, having a great influence on the approval of the indicators of 2025. We sincerely hope that the units will coordinate to complete it on schedule.
Regarding scientific research, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh shared information about the National Conference on Basic Science (hosted by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, scheduled to take place on December 9). This is an important scientific event, demonstrating the prestige and national responsibility of the University, so it is recommended that units (especially faculties that train in basic science) should arrange to attend the reception and prepare opinions/speeches for exchange and discussion at the Conference.
The school will adjust the regulations on rewards for international publications, aiming not only to increase the number of publications, but more importantly, to improve the international publication capacity of lecturers. Lecturers are requested to follow the information and participate fully to be able to enjoy the full meaning of this policy.
Basically agreeing with the opinions of the Vice Principals and the discussion opinions of the leaders of the units, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan concluded and emphasized a number of key tasks:
- Inspection and examination are regular tasks, because the School is not only responsible for reporting to the state, ministries, and direct management agencies, but also to society, parents, and students. Therefore, heads of units and each cadre need to thoroughly grasp the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, resolutely innovating, and proactively completing all records and documents according to regulations, ready for inspections and examinations.
- Continue to review and reorganize the apparatus towards integration, streamlining, multi-tasking and efficiency.
- Request the training department to develop a plan to implement the contents in the Principal's Conclusion at the 2024 Training Conference.
- Continue to innovate student care and support activities according to the Conclusion of the Student Affairs Conference for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Recommend that heads of units and focal departments widely and transparently inform staff, lecturers and students of the viewpoint: The school provides maximum support for scientific research activities and international publications; however, it is also necessary to thoroughly grasp the motto: focused, key and effective investment.
- Organizing an international scientific conference for PhD students and young staff is the support and companionship of the School with learners, demonstrating social responsibility, not a mandatory task in the training regulations. Therefore, it is necessary to communicate so that learners understand and share responsibility with the community to achieve the highest results.
- The 2024 settlement work is carried out quickly, completely, on schedule and in strict compliance with the regulations of the State and relevant ministries.
- Tuition arrears issue: Relevant units discuss and agree on implementation methods and take handling measures to ensure seriousness and fairness towards students.
Principal Hoang Anh Tuan once again emphasized: All information exchanged and conclusions at the meeting, heads of units are responsible for communicating and widely disseminating to all lecturers and staff at their units so that they can grasp, understand, implement and communicate in a unified and standard manner to learners.
