Party Congress of the Faculty of Literature: Affirming its position and sustainable development in the context of autonomy and international integration.

 
On behalf of the Party Committee for the 2022-2025 term, Comrade Nguyen Thu Hien (Party Secretary) presented the Party Committee's Political Report, emphasizing that the Party Committee of the Faculty of Literature has basically completed and exceeded the targets set in the Party Committee's Congress Resolution for the 2022-2025 term and the targets assigned by the University. Notably, the Faculty has comprehensively reformed all training programs at all levels: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral; recruited enough and exceeded the assigned enrollment targets at the undergraduate and master's levels; successfully developed and officially enrolled students in one new program: Film and Popular Arts; and completed the integration of master's and doctoral programs in a streamlined manner to meet practical requirements. Building, strengthening, and developing a highly qualified staff, in the two years 2023-2024, the Faculty added 4 staff members (1 Associate Professor, 1 Doctor, 2 PhD candidates) and is preparing to recruit 1 PhD. Research work has also achieved good results, affirming the position and brand of the unit with 70 years of tradition in training and research in literature. During the past term, the Faculty of Literature organized many national and international conferences with high professional prestige. Party development activities were particularly emphasized; the Party branch admitted 4 members, including 1 staff member and 3 students, and has a rich source of Party support among students. Besides achievements, the Report also frankly points out some shortcomings and proposes solutions to overcome them: The standardization of academic titles and degrees to develop a highly qualified staff from existing resources has not been strongly promoted; some departments lack successors; the unit still faces difficulties in completing annual targets for international publications; training methods are not diverse enough, especially short-term courses that meet the needs of society. Based on a proper assessment of the achievements as well as the limitations and shortcomings, the Party Committee of the Faculty of Literature has set forth a number of directions, targets, and specific solutions for the next term. In particular, it emphasizes the following key tasks: Organizing a solemn and meaningful celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Literature in 2026; ensuring 80% of lecturers attain doctoral degrees and 20% meet the standards for professor/associate professor titles; achieving 100% of annual enrollment targets; launching several new short-term training programs tailored to the unit's specific expertise; and successfully organizing one national scientific conference and one international scientific conference with international publications.
Speaking at the Party Branch Congress of the Faculty of Literature, Party Secretary Hoang Anh Tuan praised the thorough and serious preparation of the Party Branch Committee, from personnel matters to congress documents, as well as the spirit of daring to look directly at the truth, identifying existing shortcomings to find thorough solutions. “In the new context with many challenges but also many advantages and opportunities (the Party, Government, and Ministry of Education and Training's policy of prioritizing training and research in basic science fields), with a 70-year tradition, high-level human resources, the determination, courage to think, act, and take responsibility of the leadership team, and the support, unity, and focus of Party members and staff, I am confident that the Faculty of Literature will achieve brilliant success in the next term,” emphasized Party Secretary Hoang Anh Tuan. Delegates attending the congress discussed and contributed many ideas to the political reports of the University Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term, focusing on expressing strong approval and agreement with the content of the reports. In addition, delegates also contributed several solutions to achieve the set goals in the context of autonomy and rapidly developing technology.
Associate Professor Pham Xuan Thach (Head of the Literature Department) emphasized the need for more decisive solutions to build a successor team in all disciplines; to maximize the scientific potential of the research team to build strong research groups, implement many scientific projects at all levels, and to organize national and even international scientific conferences on training and research in Literature in the new context, thereby hoping to publish research with high scientific and practical quality. Dr. Dinh Thanh Hieu highly appreciated the Party Committee's political report, which comprehensively summarized the achievements while setting feasible and practical targets. In 2015, the mission and vision of the Faculty of Literature until 2025 were announced, and the major strategic goals have been largely realized. In the new situation, the Party Committee and the Faculty leadership need to issue a new document on the mission and vision to correctly define the guiding mission, identity, and national and international standing of the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with particular emphasis on personnel management.        
The Congress proceeded with the election of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Literature for the term 2025-2027, consisting of 3 members: Le Van Cuong, Nguyen Thu Hien, and Nguyen Thi Nam Hoang; in which 100% of the delegates attending the Congress voted to elect Comrade Nguyen Thu Hien to continue serving as Secretary of the Party Committee; Comrade Le Van Cuong was elected as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.
On behalf of the Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term, Secretary Nguyen Thu Hien respectfully thanked all Party members in the Party Branch for their trust in the new Party Committee, and expressed gratitude for the contributions of previous generations of teachers and lecturers who led the Party Branch and the Faculty in previous terms, laying an important foundation for the unit's development. She also affirmed that the support and unity of all Party members in the Party Branch is the decisive factor in helping the Party Committee successfully fulfill its nhiệm vụ of developing the Faculty of Literature into a strong and prosperous institution.
The Congress also elected official and alternate delegates representing the Party Branch of the Faculty of Literature to attend the Party Congress of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2025-2030 term and adopted the Congress Resolution.
