VNU-USSH meets and expresses gratitude to former leaders of the School on the occasion of the Lunar New Year

On January 16, 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi held a meeting to honor former leaders of the University through the periods in a solemn, warm and emotional atmosphere on the occasion of the Spring of At Ty 2025.

Achieving key goals for 2024

Speaking at the meeting, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan happily shared: “The school closed the year 2024 with many good results. Basically completed the set targets, some of which exceeded the plan assigned by Hanoi National University. Training work has made important breakthroughs, especially in innovating and restructuring training programs. In addition to opening new training programs to meet practical needs, the school has streamlined postgraduate training majors, to date completed with 28 Bachelor training programs, 36 Master training programs and 31 Doctoral training programs. Enrollment has increased steadily over the years (in 2024, the number will reach 2,300 students), input quality has been improved. Actively innovate postgraduate training in the direction of regularization, methodical, and centralized management. Facing the pressure of autonomy and fierce competition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities still adheres to the spirit: no enrollment, no training Massive, chasing quantity but taking quality as the philosophy and guiding principle for all activities.
Regarding scientific research, in addition to implementing regular tasks, in 2024 the School will focus on implementing two key programs: Building a Social Sciences and Humanities Library (currently, units have registered more than 80 works to be published) and compiling 40 sets of national standard textbooks. In 2024, the School will promote the implementation and effective cooperation with localities in scientific tasks: compiling the Geographical Records of Ninh Thuan, Quang Minh, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh... promoting national responsibility in researching and advising on socio-economic development policies for localities. The School will also develop a project for the Center for Vietnamese Cultural Documentation Abroad, which has so far collected about 50,000 pages of rare handwritten documents in ancient languages ​​such as Latin, Spanish, Dutch, English, French...; attracted experts in ancient Latin and French languages ​​and is coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Hanoi to train two experts in ancient Pali and ancient Sanskrit.
In the last days of 2024 and early 2025, the School quickly completed the Project to arrange and streamline the organizational apparatus for efficiency, effectiveness and efficiency in accordance with the spirit of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW and the direction of Hanoi National University, from the current 46 focal points to 32, corresponding to a streamlining level of 30.4%.
Some of the major changes implemented include: 2 training units, the Faculty of Anthropology and the Department of Religious Studies, were merged into 1 training unit; units with similar functions were merged and terminated, and the functions and tasks of some units were transferred to be linked to training tasks and directly support training programs, ensuring compliance with the long-term development strategy of the School. In the next phase, the School will continue to review and restructure to ensure a lean, strong, and effective apparatus with about 25 focal points.
Administrative management work has also been drastically innovated towards professionalism, friendliness and efficiency. Facilities, working and studying spaces for lecturers and students have been renovated and upgraded to be spacious, modern, convenient and to expand the space for studying, self-studying and resting for learners.
On behalf of the School's Board of Directors and all staff, lecturers and students, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his deep gratitude for the dedication, intelligence and enthusiasm of the teachers to the cause of building and developing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities over the past decades. Although the teachers are no longer involved in management work, they still accompany, contribute ideas and give valuable guidance to the current Board of Directors, and are willing to participate in the training and scientific research activities of the School. This is not only a source of encouragement and motivation but also a resource and invaluable asset, contributing to building the brand of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities increasingly stronger.

Listening to the sharing from Principal Hoang Anh Tuan, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Long (Former Principal of the University) was extremely moved to see the University growing and achieving very commendable achievements in the context of the education sector facing many difficulties. Completely agreeing with the motto of taking quality as the philosophy and highest principle in all activities, Mr. Pham Quang Long emphasized: "High quality, high level, pioneering, creative" will always be the fundamental values ​​for our University to continue to develop and affirm its position and brand on the national and international university education map. We are extremely happy, confident, and supportive of the key tasks and strategies set forth by the Board of Directors and look forward to the development and bright future of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Our feelings every time we return will be more and more love and pride for the place where we have been attached to our entire teaching and research career.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Long is very happy and proud that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has achieved many important achievements in recent years.

Sharing the difficulties and challenges that the University will have to face in the next stage, especially the pressure of the autonomy mechanism and the current strong digital transformation context, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Former Principal of the University) expressed his wish: "No matter how difficult it is, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities must still maintain its mission as the leading unit in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources in Social Sciences and Humanities, must still promote its "unique, special, and characteristic" values, maintain and develop basic science majors, even if expanding applied majors must be based on basic science majors. That is not only building a brand in training but also national responsibility, responsibility for the country's science sector", of course, it must still be in harmony with meeting the practical needs of the current labor market, the requirements of growth and increased income to retain good, highly qualified staff.
Acknowledging the outstanding efforts of the school's leadership, lecturers and staff, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh expressed his joy when each time he came to school, he saw that the school was becoming more spacious and modern; the structure was stable and operating very effectively; the staff were united and enthusiastic; all activities achieved very encouraging results. "With the intelligence, enthusiasm and creativity of the leadership team and the dedication of the entire staff and lecturers, I am confident that the 2025 plan set by the school will be successfully implemented. In particular, I hope that the school will focus on investing in training a team of leading experts and scientists and building the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities to become one of the leading prestigious science journals in Vietnam and reach international status. This is a unique feature and advantage that not every educational institution has" - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized.
