At the conference, Director of the Institute for Education Quality Assurance Nghiem Xuan Huy said that currently, lecturers and students of VNU have adapted to the online teaching model on software platforms such as Zoom Meetings, MS Teams, Google Meets. Training units have solutions to support online training to organize teaching during the time of implementing measures to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic.
Recently, VNU has built an Online Learning System (LMS) with the goal of integrating teaching and learning data with the unified data warehouse of VNU to organize online teaching and learning activities in the direction of a blended education approach at units in VNU, contributing to improving the quality and innovation of teaching activities. The LMS software is integrated with the training management system of VNU and units to ensure that information on training programs, modules, classes, lecturers, and students is synchronized and unified. At the same time, it connects with the Information Center - Library to use and supplement digital learning resources provided by VNU.
However, during the implementation process, some limitations were revealed: The readiness level of lecturers in designing courses and organizing online or blended learning teaching is not high; The hardware system is not synchronized, the capacity to meet usage needs is still at a moderate level, especially for the elearning system; The system of unified regulations and instructions to promote changes in training program design, testing and evaluation methods or investment policies and resource support for lecturers is still limited.
Recently, the Institute for Education Quality Assurance (IEA) has piloted the implementation of learning through the MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) platform provided by Coursera. The Institute has deployed more than 5,000 free online courses for lecturers and students of VNU. Lecturers and students participating in online courses all highly appreciate this system.
VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son said that VNU has implemented many solutions in terms of policies, investment, and support to promote digital transformation in general and online training in particular. VNU is in the process of perfecting and synchronizing software solutions. In particular, VNU-LMS software has been developed in a modern approach, which can meet the teaching needs of VNU. However, in order for online teaching and learning to become a continuous activity and ensure quality, it is necessary to have synchronous and strong investment solutions for hardware and software systems; e-learning related policy systems; and investment in e-learning content development.
Concluding the conference, VNU President Le Quan affirmed that VNU will provide maximum support for lecturers to teach online. From now until 2022, VNU will focus on improving the quality of online teaching activities, increasing the initiative of lecturers and students. In particular, the immediate task is to enhance the capacity of lecturers to use and exploit online teaching software through short-term training courses, where VNU lecturers will practice directly on VNU-LMS software. Along with that, the Director directed relevant units to select and test software that meets international quality standards to support lecturers in drafting and designing e-learning lectures.
VNU President Le Quan emphasized that in the coming time, VNU will gradually apply the MOOCs approach to general courses (M1, M2) with a large number of learners, moving towards organizing mandatory online training for these courses. At the same time, use the VNU-LMS platform to organize the remaining courses. Encourage lecturers to apply blended learning in teaching. In parallel, short training courses in the form of MOOCs will be built to meet the training needs outside VNU.
Regarding the development and completion of the VNU-LMS system, Director Le Quan requested that relevant units need to research and integrate and connect VNU-LMS with the training management system and learning monitoring system to serve online testing and assessment activities. In addition, it is necessary to develop and complete the feature of converting data from other systems; Add and complete features to be able to deploy MOOCs course models on VNU-LMS.
