The training session was attended and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the University Council, Head of the Training Department) along with representatives of the leadership and postgraduate training assistants of the faculties/institutes/departments.
In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam shared: “In the 2023-2024 academic year, the university's postgraduate enrollment and training achieved very positive results, completing and exceeding targets, especially doctoral enrollment which reached over 200%. The process of recognizing degrees and awarding diplomas to new master's and doctoral graduates was conducted promptly and solemnly, leaving a very good impression on students and their families. This result is due to the close attention and guidance from the university's leadership, the decisive involvement of the leaders of the training units, and the efforts of the supervising lecturers, postgraduate assistants, and functional staff. However, in the context of many changes in education, new regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, the governing body; and fierce competition among educational institutions, the organization of undergraduate training also faces many difficulties and shortcomings. Therefore, today The Training Department proposes organizing a meeting where all staff involved in managing master's and doctoral training from training units and functional departments can share their concerns and difficulties and propose solutions to improve the effectiveness and quality of postgraduate training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam delivered a speech at the conference.
Attendees at the training session listened to a report presented by the staff in charge of master's and doctoral training at the Training Department. The report particularly highlighted some changes in the latest regulations and guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Training and Hanoi National University related to postgraduate training; and some common difficulties encountered by students and doctoral candidates in completing their defense documents.
Dr. Hoang Van Quynh, Deputy Head of the Training Department, emphasized several points to note in the overall schedule for master's and doctoral training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Regarding the organization and management of doctoral training, Ms. Le Thi Kim Tan noted: after the decision to recognize the students is made, the training units, based on the training schedule issued by the University, will issue detailed monthly study plans for the doctoral candidates. This serves as the basis for monitoring progress, helping doctoral candidates complete their training on schedule and defend their dissertations on time.
Addressing concerns from training units regarding the criteria for supervisors, Ms. Le Thi Kim Tan emphasized: Regulation 3638/QD-DHQGHN dated October 21, 2022, issued by the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, clearly stipulates the standards and responsibilities of independent supervisors, principal supervisors, co-supervisors, and co-supervisors. Therefore, postgraduate assistants and leaders in charge of master's and doctoral training at training units need to be familiar with all these guidelines to propose lists of supervisors and committee members, avoiding incorrect proposals that would require multiple revisions and affect the progress of doctoral dissertation defenses.

Ms. Le Thi Kim Tan also expressed her wish that postgraduate assistants in faculties/institutes/departments, as well as unit leaders, should further strengthen their work in caring for students, providing academic warnings to doctoral candidates, and supporting and guiding doctoral candidates wholeheartedly so that they comply with training regulations and complete their dissertation defense as soon as possible and with the highest quality.
Regarding the organization, management, and training of master's students, Mr. Dinh Van Nam emphasized the new points in the training regulations, some notes on student care, and minimizing the number of students exceeding the maximum allowed duration.
MSc. Nguyen Dinh Trung expressed his wish that training units pay attention to the progress of completing defense documents and post-defense procedures for students as specifically stipulated in the training schedule to avoid affecting the rights of learners.
Speaking at the training session, representatives from the training units acknowledged and highly appreciated the professionalism, dedication, and close attention of the master's and doctoral training department at the Training Office. This has greatly contributed to the overall success of the University's training work, spreading an image of Hanoi University of Humanities as professional, thoughtful, and humane to a large number of students nationwide.
In addition, representatives from various departments openly shared some concerns and proposed solutions to further enhance the success of postgraduate training in the future.
Associate Professor Pham Hoang Giang, Head of the Philosophy Department, expressed the difficulties in implementing regulations on participation in scientific research for students and doctoral candidates working in non-teaching or non-research institutions.
Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Thi Linh, Head of the Psychology Department, hopes that the University will provide specific guidance on which training activities and the required participation duration will qualify doctoral candidates to meet the regulations.
Associate Professor Hoang Thu Huong, Deputy Head of the Sociology Department, suggested that the university could grant VNU accounts to doctoral candidates and undergraduates as soon as the admission decision is made, so that they can access the resources of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Dr. Tran Thanh Tung, Deputy Head of the Department of Archival and Office Management, delivered a speech at the conference.
Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Hung, Head of the Department of Information and Library Science, shared his views at the conference.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Anh, postgraduate assistant at the Faculty of Tourism Studies, discussed solutions to support doctoral candidates in completing their dissertation defense and comprehensive review essays within the stipulated time.
Concluding the training session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam, on behalf of the Training Department, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the faculties/institutes/departments, lecturers, and postgraduate assistants for their sharing, understanding, and support in helping the department ensure that postgraduate training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has been conducted in accordance with regulations and with continuously improving quality over the years.
Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam emphasized: “Exchanges like today are extremely necessary, because this is an opportunity for us to share our concerns and thoughts to better understand each other, and to discuss and propose solutions to overcome practical obstacles in postgraduate training at each unit. We must still agree that all training activities must comply with the latest regulations and rules of the state and the governing body. Leaders in charge and assistants in postgraduate training at the faculty need to have a very firm grasp and thorough understanding of the regulations and rules to guide students accurately and clearly. During implementation, it is necessary to strengthen student care and support activities, and promptly inform students of changes in training regulations to ensure the full rights of doctoral and postgraduate students. The postgraduate assistants at the unit need to be close to, care for, and provide timely support so that doctoral and postgraduate students can carry out their studies and defend their theses.” "To complete the thesis in the most convenient way, on time, and with the highest quality."
