The course's theme and significance attracted the interest and participation of all staff currently working at the Department of Information and Library Science.
International publications are now one of the important indicators for ranking universities worldwide, affirming academic prestige and demonstrating the contribution of educational and research institutions to the overall development of scientific fields globally. Therefore, in recent years, the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has implemented strong strategies and policies to support and encourage scientists and lecturers to increase their international publications.
Adhering to that principle, and playing a leading role in applying modern scientific and technological achievements in teaching and scientific research, the Faculty of Information and Library Science proactively developed a plan, sought experts, and successfully organized a training course on the application of bibliometric analysis in international research and publications for all faculty members, lecturers, and doctoral candidates of the Faculty.
The course was held from July 2nd to October 22nd, 2024, with the participation of two experts: Dr. Pham Hung Hiep, Director of the Institute for Educational Research and Knowledge Transfer – Thanh Do University, Member of the Scientific and Training Council, University of Education, VNU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Hung (Head of the Information and Library Science Department, VNU-USSH).
Bibliographic analysis is a quantitative research method based on mathematical and statistical techniques to evaluate the external characteristics of scientific literature and predict current and future trends in specific research fields. Mastering this method allows scientists to gain an overview of their research area, discover new research trends, connect with the academic community, experts, and research groups worldwide, improve their ability to write literature reviews, and support international publications.

The course consists of 5 modules aimed at improving research paper writing skills using bibliographic methods and literature review techniques, thereby helping lecturers and doctoral candidates improve the quality of their international publications.
The course includes the following topics:
- An overview of the bibliographic measurement method.
- Read scientific articles using the bibliographic method.
- Practice using VOSViewer software.
- Reading and analyzing data
- Write articles according to international standards.
- Search for and verify a suitable international journal for the article.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Hung (Head of the Department of Information and Library Science), this training course is organized to enhance the research capacity and especially the international publishing capacity of the Department. With the support of bibliographic methods, the Department expects to have at least 3 international articles in Q3 or higher and 4 domestic articles published after the course. This is a feasible goal if we actively learn and share experiences during the course. It is hoped that the course will yield practical results, contributing to raising the Department's standing in the scientific community in the field of Information Management and Information and Library Science.
Dr. Pham Hung Hiep (Training Expert) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Hung (Head of the Information and Library Science Department) After the training course, lecturers and researchers will know how to exploit data in Scopus, Web of Science, etc., master the techniques of writing comprehensive research papers using itemized methods, and effectively use tools such as VOSViewer, Bibliometrix, and Excel to analyze, interpret, and present data, thereby improving research efficiency. In particular, at the end of the course, each group of students will complete a manuscript using itemized methods and submit it to a suitable international journal.
Sharing his thoughts after the course, Mr. Dang Tran Long, M.Sc., said: “I studied information technology, so research methods in the social sciences and humanities are not my strong point. However, through this course, my scientific research methods have been improved. Many issues were guided very specifically and meticulously by experts, and students were able to apply the knowledge directly to their research topics. Therefore, we all achieved results immediately after the course. Currently, I have submitted two international papers and one domestic paper, which are currently undergoing peer review. This is a useful course for me, changing the way I approach writing scientific papers, especially those that meet international standards! Personally, I and the lecturers and staff in the Faculty are very grateful to the Faculty of Information and Library Science leadership and the University for always accompanying, creating conditions, and providing maximum support for the staff to increase international publications. I hope that courses like this will be organized more often and on a wider scale.” more widespread at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Master's degree holder Dang Tran Long, one of the outstanding trainees of the training course, received his certificate.
This is not only a testament to the success of the course and the support of the Faculty and the University in improving the quality of international publications, but also an important step forward in the research activities of faculty members, lecturers, and students of the Faculty of Information and Library Science in particular and the University in general.
