More Harvard - Yenching scholarship opportunities for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities

On January 4, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), had a meeting with Prof. Michael Herzfeld - Professor of Social Sciences, Department of Anthropology, Harvard University. Also attending the meeting were Associate Professor Dr. Le Tuan Anh - Deputy Head of the Department of Cooperation and Development, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; representatives of the Department of Anthropology and the Department of Oriental Studies.
 
Vice Principal Dao Thanh Truong expressed his gratitude to Professor Michael Herzfeld for his contributions and support to the school over the years.
At the meeting, Vice President Dao Thanh Truong said: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a pioneer training institution in social sciences and humanities. In recent years, the university has continuously improved and enhanced the quality of training in basic sciences, updating applied sciences to keep up with social trends. With 28 bachelor's training programs, 36 master's training programs, 32 doctoral training programs, the university pays special attention to the team of scientists of VNU - USSH. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has contributed to many national and international projects and topics in the field of social sciences, and the university is also the unit implementing many policy consulting programs for the Vietnamese government.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has received many scholarship programs from the Harvard - Yenching Institute in recent times, creating opportunities for students and lecturers to study and research at leading academic institutions in the world. Vice President Dao Thanh Truong shared that Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son was one of the first people at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to receive the Harvard - Yenching scholarship. Accordingly, Vice President Dao Thanh Truong affirmed that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will continue to maintain and develop a good relationship with the Harvard - Yenching Institute, not only in linking scholarship programs but also in co-organizing conferences in the future.
Prof. Michael Herzfeld highly appreciated the achievements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in recent times, and expressed surprise at the quality of training and the strict scholarship review process in Vietnam. The professor also expressed his desire to bring lecturers from other social sciences to research in many countries around the world, expanding learning opportunities and opportunities to access new knowledge. In the future, Prof. Michael Herzfeld will have the opportunity to introduce many professors from many schools around the world to work and teach at VNU - USSH.

The Harvard-Yenching Institute funds fellowships for faculty and graduate students at leading universities in East, Southeast, and South Asia in all areas of the social sciences and humanities. The Institute also supports publications at Harvard and in Asia, publishes a book review series and a research paper series, and supports the Harvard-Yenching Library and other research initiatives.
