Meta and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities strengthen cooperation to improve digital capacity for students

On December 21, 2023, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), had a meeting with Mr. Ruici Tio, Manager of the Asia-Pacific Policy and Integrity Program of Meta. Also attending the meeting were Mr. Amri Priyadi, Senior Advisor for the Asia-Pacific region and a number of Meta representatives in Vietnam. The meeting was not only an opportunity to evaluate the achievements in recent years but also to propose key cooperation contents in the coming time.

Speaking at the reception, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his gratitude for the very effective cooperation of Meta Company over the past two years, typically in the project of Improving Digital Capacity for Students. The results of the Project are really impressive: providing a digital capacity framework for students, this is the first capacity framework in Vietnam and has been used by more than 150 schools; organizing many seminars, research projects and maintaining the operating model of the Digital Version Humanities Club. This effective cooperation is indeed proof that, despite being a leading training and research unit in the field of social sciences and humanities, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities can still be a pioneer in the field of digital transformation.
On behalf of Meta Company, Mr. Ruici Tio highly appreciated the efforts of the University and the results achieved by the project, and was very pleased that the results of the project have been widely used, bringing useful values ​​to Vietnamese students, contributing to improving the quality of training. Therefore, in the coming time, Meta hopes to strengthen cooperation with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to implement the next phase of this Project.

Also attending the meeting were representatives of the Faculty of Information and Library Science and members of the project on Enhancing Digital Capacity for Students. The two sides had a lively discussion on the importance of applying research results from the project to subjects and non-academic activities, not only at VNU but also in the community.

Representatives of the two sides openly discussed the contents of promoting cooperation in the coming time.

The discussion also focused on assessing new trends and changes in the approach of young people and students to the digital environment. A notable point in the next phase of the project is to pay attention to research on the state of digital development, mental health in the digital environment, and issues related to AI.
At the end of the working session, the two sides agreed on a number of contents in the cooperation development strategy in phase 2 of the project:
- The two sides continue to promote the use of phase 1 results: expand the target audience of phase 1 results, develop online courses on digital competencies and digital competency assessment tools.
- Promote the development of digital well-being for students: participate in a proactive, positive and safe digital environment; care for mental health in the digital environment.
- Promote AI application in social life.
The cooperation between Meta and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities demonstrates the University's continuous efforts and pioneering role in improving students' digital capacity, actively contributing to the development of the community and society in the digital age.

Meta (formerly Facebook, Inc) is an American media and technology company founded byMark Zuckerberg. Meta is considered one of the most valuable companies in the world.

In 2020, with the national mission, as well as accompanying students in enhancing their skills to meet the increasing demands of the digital economy, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) cooperated with Facebook (then Meta) to implement the Project "Improving digital capacity for students". The project was implemented from 2020 to the end of 2022 and achieved many positive results: integrating digital skills training content from Meta Group's Digital Age Thinking program into the course "Introduction to Information Capacity" and training for more than 2,000 students; Building a digital capacity framework for students (the first digital capacity framework in Vietnam) and digital capacity development documents.
