Mr. Simon Kreye, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Vietnam, visited and worked at VNU-USSH.

On December 19, 2023, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), Mr. Simon Kreye, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Vietnam, held a meeting and discussion with representatives of the university's leadership to promote cooperation programs in the fields of education and culture. Also attending the meeting was Dr. Florian Feyerabend, Head Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in Vietnam.

Welcoming Deputy Ambassador Simon Kreye and the Head of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Vietnam, Dr. Florian Feyerabend, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, Vice Rector, along with leaders from the Training Department and the Faculty of International Studies.
Speaking at the reception, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong expressed his deep gratitude to the German Embassy in Vietnam and the KAS Foundation for their attention and support to the University over the past period. The KAS Foundation is one of the long-standing and reliable partners of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the cooperation between KAS and the University has been making a positive contribution to enhancing the capacity of researchers in the field of international relations as well as many other social science disciplines.

Dr. Florian Feyerabend, Head Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Vietnam, delivered a speech.

Representatives from the KAS Foundation also acknowledged the very practical and effective collaborative efforts of the University and its Faculties in the past period and expressed their desire for both sides to further promote activities such as faculty and student exchanges; organizing scientific conferences, publishing publications; organizing competitions to learn about the culture and history of the two countries; and awarding scholarships, etc.

In its role, the German Embassy in Vietnam is ready to support, promote, and connect these cooperation projects between the two sides – Deputy Ambassador Simon Kreye affirmed.

During his visit to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Simon Kreye also held a discussion and shared his experiences with faculty members and students of the International Relations department.

Deputy Ambassador Simon Kreye shared an overview of Germany's history, culture, economy, education, and foreign policy, emphasizing that the Federal Republic of Germany is located in the heart of Europe. It is a democratic, international nation with a rich heritage and a thriving economy. International cooperation is the foundation of Germany's foreign policy, always pursuing the goal of working for peace, security, democracy, and human rights worldwide. In its economic development strategy, Germany aims to set a benchmark in climate policy with a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 65% ​​by 2030 compared to 1990 levels; reducing emissions by 88% by 2040 and achieving greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045, while actively participating in projects to prevent and mitigate the negative impacts of climate change globally.

Regarding bilateral relations between Vietnam and Germany in the political, economic, cultural, scientific, and educational fields, the report affirms that since 2011, Germany and Vietnam have had a "strategic partnership" with cooperation projects at various levels and in many policy areas. Germany and Vietnam consider each other important partners, working together to maintain world peace based on respect for international law, multilateralism, global free trade and investment, as well as actively protecting the environment and climate.
Bilateral cultural and educational relations between the two countries are also developing well. Many cultural, educational, and scientific organizations (such as the German Academic Exchange Agency (DAAD), the Goethe Institute, the Vietnamese-German University, etc.) are operating very effectively in Vietnam. Furthermore, over 100,000 Vietnamese people who have worked or studied in Germany form a unique bridge between the two countries, maintaining close cooperation and enhancing mutual interests.

During the meeting, faculty and students of the university had a valuable opportunity to share and exchange ideas directly with the Deputy Ambassador, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of Germany's position in the world, the goals of the German government, and Germany's relationship with other countries, especially Vietnam, as well as potential opportunities for Vietnamese students to study and interact in Germany.

Deputy Ambassador Simon Kreye highly appreciated the boldness, confidence, and extensive knowledge of Vietnamese students, especially those in the International Relations field from two leading universities in Vietnam specializing in social sciences and humanities. He also shared information about the German government's policies and scholarships offered by leading German universities to international students. The German Embassy in Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to help students learn about the culture and history of both countries and have the opportunity to study abroad.
The insights shared by Deputy Ambassador Simon Kreye were very useful and meaningful for lecturers and students, providing them with the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of international relations, while also allowing students from domestic universities to exchange knowledge and connect with opportunities for study and exchange abroad.
