Tuesday - March 22, 2016 04:09
Around this time, three years ago, the Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities took place in an atmosphere of enthusiastic learning and training among the union members and students of the entire university, opening a new term with the action slogan "Creativity - Connection - Reaching Further". Three years have passed, a relatively short period, but enough for a generation of Union officials to mature in their work, enough to train a new generation of Union officials, and enough for many activities and programs to become more in-depth, distinctive, and leave a real mark on the students.

The Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - a successful term with many notable achievements.

With five action programs implemented – namely, the "Five Good Students" movement and the "Building a Humanistic Student Style" campaign; student counseling and support; cultural, artistic, and sports activities, and volunteer work contributing to the community; activities in coordination with the Youth Union and activities of clubs/teams/groups; the work of the Student Union and student movements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities during the 2013-2016 term achieved comprehensive results in all areas of activity. The targets for the entire term were basically completed, with many targets being achieved exceptionally well. The action programs of the university's students during the past term were implemented actively and effectively, contributing to improving the quality of education, cultivating ethics, fostering skills, supporting student life and comprehensive development, participating in building the university, and strengthening and developing the Student Union.

The University Student Union has effectively implemented the "Five Good Students" movement and the "Building a Humanistic Student Style" campaign among its members and students. Over the years, members and students have become aware of the importance of the "Five Good Students" movement and are orienting themselves towards more positive steps in their self-improvement to achieve the title. The University Student Union and its affiliated student associations have provided numerous forms of support to help students strive towards the criteria of a "Five Good Student" in all aspects, such as seminars on study methods and scientific research, useful skills classes, and vibrant cultural, sports, arts, and volunteer activities. The association encouraged its members and students to develop comprehensive knowledge, especially in politics, economics, culture, society, and foreign languages, alongside specialized knowledge, through clubs/teams/groups and competitions organized by the Student Union. At the end of the term, 110 students achieved the "5 Good Students" title at various levels, including one student who received the "5 Good Students" title at the central level and three students who received the "January Star" award.

The "Building the Humanities Student Style" campaign was also widely supported by members and students, creating an image of young, serious students. The Student Union of the university conceived and produced ID card lanyards to promote and encourage students to adhere to the university's regulations; at the same time, it implemented the sewing of uniforms for Youth Union and Student Union officials (from the 2014-2015 academic year) and all students (from the 2015-2016 academic year), contributing to increased pride in being a student of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and presenting a positive image of the university's students to foreign friends studying at the university as well as students from other universities. The annual campaign "Studying with Discipline, Reviewing with Quality, Exams Seriously" was launched at the end of each semester with fun, engaging, and meaningful visual products to promote and encourage students to strictly adhere to the regulations on studying and examinations. The university's Student Union, in collaboration with the Youth Union, organized the "Humanitarian Ideas" competition and subsequently launched the official logo, slogan, and website.www.youth.ussh.vnu.edu.vnThe fanpage "USSH Youth Union - Student Association" of the university's youth, along with promotional materials about discipline, civility in the school, and traffic safety, are presented in lively and highly educational formats.

Together with the Youth Union, the Student Union has actively contributed to achieving the strategic goal of improving the quality of education at the university. They have implemented various measures to encourage students in academic competitions; actively sought out talented individuals and fostered student intellectual capacity in scientific research; supported students in developing professional skills; and provided counseling and support for members' lives. Seminars such as "Preparing for New Students," "Study Methods at University," "Student Scientific Research Methods," etc., as well as a series of skills training classes like "Safe Driving," "Effective English Learning," "Computer Skills," "Teamwork," "Job Search and Interviewing," etc., have attracted a large number of students. The "Green Torch" award, given to students with outstanding achievements in scientific research on topics related to youth, students, and the Youth Union and Student Association, contributes to promoting the scientific research movement among students throughout the university. A highlight in student counseling and support during the past term was the collaboration with the Youth Union to select 75 outstanding students to participate in the "Young Vietnamese Parliament" project organized by the British Council and the National Assembly Office. Based on this, a forum is being developed to create an environment for students throughout the university to practice teamwork and presentation skills through debates on issues relevant to students and young people.

During the past term, the University Student Union guided its units to host university-level activities based on their own internal resources. Notable examples include the Student Union of the Faculty of Information and Library Science hosting the "USSH IT Championship 2014" and the "USSH Book Festival 2015," and the Student Union of the Faculty of Political Science hosting the "Understanding the ASEAN Community" competition. To celebrate the 7th Congress of the University Student Union, the Student Unions of the Faculties of Information and Library Science, Archival Studies and Office Management, Linguistics and Literature jointly hosted the "USSH Book Festival 2016." This is also a priority in the annual performance evaluation scoring of these units. In addition, at the Faculty of Science's Student Union level, there are many activities providing guidance and support for learning and scientific research, as well as networking events with employers, while also promoting the unit's professional strengths. These include seminars on learning and scientific research methods, advice on choosing majors, and competitions aimed at enhancing students' knowledge, skills, and professional expertise. Notable examples include the "Welcome to the Major" activity (Faculty of Oriental Studies Student Union), "Photography and Filmmaking Skills Training for the Visual Anthropology Course" (Faculty of Anthropology Student Union), "Intellectual Property Competition - Connecting Students with Businesses" (Faculty of Management Science Student Union), "Workshop on Secrets to Conquering Employers" (Faculty of Information and Library Science Student Union), "Meeting Employers" (Faculty of Tourism Studies Student Union), etc.

Simultaneously, it has directed and encouraged units to organize activities that reflect the unique characteristics of their students, are cost-effective, and enrich the students' spiritual lives. A highlight of the Union's work and student movement during this term is the organization of large-scale activities with a series of consecutive events, aiming to attract a large number of members and students to participate, while also helping students develop their full potential and linking the image of each member and student with the overall image of the program. Notable events include the "New Student Orientation Day 2014" (with a series of events including a recruitment day for clubs/teams/groups, a seminar on preparing for new students, a film screening and interaction with the film crew of "Living with History," the USSH's Got Talent competition, and the Green Humanities Volunteer Day); the "Humanities Colors Camp and Cultural Exchange" (with a series of attractive events such as a recruitment day for clubs/teams/groups, a seminar on preparing for Humanities students, a series of physical games called "Challenge 336," and a cultural exchange); and the "Humanities Youth" Day (with major activities such as the "Humanities Pink Sunshine" blood donation campaign, Green Humanities, and Healthy Youth).

“Spring of Love” was a special program, organized for the first time, to recreate the atmosphere of the traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year with over 20 adapted folk games. The program attracted a large number of Vietnamese and international students studying at the school, providing a meaningful opportunity for them to experience the traditional atmosphere of the early days of the new year. Prizes won in the games were exchanged for materials to create giant New Year's greeting cards to give to teachers. In addition, the “Spring Volunteer” corner contributed to fundraising for the school's youth volunteer activities through creative games. Traditional activities such as the "USSH Graceful Student" contest, the singing contest for staff and students, the "March Flavors" cooking competition, the "Summer Farewell" program, the "USSH Champions League Men's Football Tournament" and the "USSH Cup Women's Football Tournament,"... are increasingly attracting the interest and participation of a large number of students.

The university's Student Union has participated in and achieved high results in competitions outside the university, contributing to promoting the image and affirming the talents of students, such as: the National Student Arts, Sports and Culture Competition in 2013, the Student Song Journey in 2013 and 2014, the National Cheerleading Competition in 2014, the "I Love Hanoi" Contest in 2013 and 2014, the Hanoi City Student Singing Contest in 2013, the VNU Elegant Female Student Contest in 2015, the VUG National Student Sports Competition in 2015 and 2016… and programs and reports broadcast on Vietnam Television and other media channels.

The "Humanitarian Blood Donation and Green Humanities" volunteer day has become a new "specialty" of the university's Student Union. The "Green Humanities" activity attracts nearly 600 volunteers per day, participating in practical activities such as cleaning computer labs; cleaning lecture halls, removing adhesive tape from whiteboards and applying promotional decals; cleaning benches, flowerbeds, and whitewashing tree trunks; exchanging paper for trees; cleaning and raising awareness of traffic laws at the school gate and pedestrian bridge; and the 5K recycling project. Furthermore, with the establishment of the Humanities Youth Blood Donation Mobilization Team, the "Sunny Humanities" blood donation activity, along with Green Humanities, created a major event for students across the university. The event was organized with numerous consecutive activities before, during, and after the day. This series of engaging events attracted a large number of faculty and students, resulting in the collection of 2082 units of blood. The event has consistently garnered significant attention and has truly become a meaningful activity, raising awareness of environmental hygiene, maintaining the school's pedagogical landscape, and fostering responsibility towards the community; it has become a major event eagerly awaited by teachers and students each semester.

Activities supporting students' learning and scientific research, organized by the Youth Union and Student Association, have attracted the attention of young people.

Alongside focusing on on-site volunteer activities, the University Student Union organized many meaningful volunteer activities. Simultaneously, it directed and supported units in organizing volunteer activities related to their professional fields to leverage the strengths of its members and students, mobilize resources from within and outside the university, and adapt to the current credit-based training system. The Green Summer Campaign in 2013, 2014, and 2015 was successfully implemented according to the plan. In addition to maintaining volunteer teams that went to remote areas to provide practical support to local communities, the University Student Union also built youth projects in areas where student volunteers had participated. Volunteer activities related to professional fields were a mandatory requirement for each Student Union branch during this term and were highly valued in the performance evaluation scoring system. The Student Union of the Faculty of Information and Library Science with its mobile library project "Up" and the "Humanities Book Tree" project; the Student Union of the Faculty of Psychology with its volunteer activity "Warm Clothes for Children"; along with many other meaningful trips by units such as the Student Union of the Faculty of Sociology with "Loving Tet"; the Student Union of the Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Administration with "Children's Swallows"; the Student Union of the Faculty of Philosophy with "Nurturing Green Seeds - Sowing Love"; the Student Union of the Faculty of Management Science with weekly activities supporting children at the SOS Children's Village in Hanoi;... are typical examples of units in this activity. In addition, volunteer activities have become the "trademark" of clubs/teams/groups such as "Warm Winter in Ha Giang/Dong Van/Cao Bang", "Square Tet", "May Knights" (Student Social Work Team), "Singing Forever About Him", "My Dream Journey" (Hoa Da Club), "Spring Comes to Lao Chai", “Springtime in Ta Xua” (Student Volunteer Team) and “Ha Giang Smile” (Enactus Team) are always implemented effectively, maximizing the volunteer and pioneering spirit of the school's youth.

The conference was divided into three main activities: training in student union work skills, exchanging content on student union work, and training in entertainment skills, event organization skills, and teamwork skills for branch-level officials. A new requirement for student union work and student movements in the past term was to link up and organize joint activities; a prime example being the Student Unions of the Philosophy and Anthropology Faculties with... The "Proud Humanities Students" competition; the Student Union of the Philosophy and Management Sciences Faculties with the "War Memories" program; the Student Union of the Information and Library Science, Journalism and Communication, Sociology, Philosophy, and Anthropology Faculties with the "5K Recycling Project"...

The University Student Union always prioritizes building increasingly strong affiliated clubs/teams/groups as a foundation for organizing and implementing movement activities; at the same time, it continues to promote and exploit the strengths of existing clubs/teams/groups, as well as strengthen and develop more effective, practical, and efficient models that meet the requirements of the Union's work in the new era, from the Student Union to the University Student Union. Besides maintaining the effective operation of existing clubs/teams/groups, the Student Union also focuses on developing strengths and building new activity models towards professionalization. During the 2013-2016 term, the University Student Union officially established and put into operation 5 new clubs/teams/groups: the Garnet Reception and Events Club, the Humanities Vovinam Club, the Humanities Youth Blood Donation Team, the SEG Student Event Organizing Club, and the Men's Football Club.
