National University awards Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac

(CPV) – Authorized by the Board of Directors of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, on March 3, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to award an Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac (French nationality) of Toulouse 2 University – Jean-Jaurès (France) for his outstanding contributions in many aspects to the construction and development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Attending the ceremony were: Professor - Doctor of Science Nguyen Dinh Duc, Head of Training Department, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Associate Professor - Doctor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Mr. Mehdi Salim, Attaché for Scientific and University Cooperation, French Embassy in Hanoi, and representatives of leaders of faculties, departments, etc.; representatives of staff of the French Embassy in Hanoi, representatives of the Francophone University Agency in Asia - Pacific, agencies, organizations and research institutes, etc.

Professor Gilbert de Terssac - former Director of the Center for Research on Management, Organization, Labor and Power (CERTOP) - a prestigious research unit under the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), is the person who advocates research to support the transformation of Vietnamese society and is the bridge between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Toulouse 2 University - Jean Jaurès, the Francophone University Agency, Téluq University, Canada... in identifying, designing and implementing mixed research programs to develop the community and publishing international publications, notably the House of Culture and Tourism in Moc Chau, Son La, inaugurated in June 2014 and the book "Vietnam in the process of transformation" printed in France.

In particular, as a leading professor of sociology with great international prestige, Professor De Terssac has always facilitated international cooperation activities between the National University in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular with major international partners such as: Francophone University Agency (AUF), French Institute for Development Research (IRD), French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, Téluq University, Canada, BigC Trade Center, major French tourism organizations such as: Exotissimo... Thereby, many international cooperation programs have been signed and effectively implemented, including many international scientific conferences, typically: Labor market integration of Vietnamese university graduates (2006), Analysis of support for business transformation (2007); Creating socio-economic activities to serve local sustainable development - Case of the Northwest and Son La regions (2010)...; Interregional research cooperation between Midi-Pyrenees, France and Son La Province, Vietnam. Through the program, Professor De Terssac has sought many field research scholarships for Vietnamese students (with 15 scholarships, total value of about 400 million VND).

In the field of training, Professor De Terssac is the supervisor of many Vietnamese sociology PhDs in research, making an important contribution to helping them become independent researchers, capable of leading major scientific research topics. In addition, Professor De Terssac has been the director of a research program on the management training needs of Vietnamese students, the director of a community development research program in Son La from 2007 to 2014 and the editor of the book "Vietnam in the transition process" in French...

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities highly appreciated the outstanding contributions of Professor Gilbert de Terssac; at the same time, he emphasized that the ceremony to award the Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac is an event expressing respect and appreciation for the contributions of Professor Gilbert de Terssac to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and to Vietnam.

Expressing his honor at being awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Professor Gilbert de Terssac affirmed that in the coming time, he will continue to support and assist the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi in the fields of training, international cooperation and scientific research...

It is known that before Professor Gilbert de Terssac, Hanoi National University also awarded Honorary Doctorate Degrees to 51 individuals from many countries and territories./.
