National University awards Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac

(CPV) – Authorized by the Board of Directors of Hanoi National University, on March 3rd, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to award an Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac (French nationality) from Toulouse 2 – Jean-Jaurès University (Republic of France) for his outstanding contributions in many aspects to the building and development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Hanoi National University.

Attending the ceremony were: Professor – Doctor of Science Nguyen Dinh Duc, Head of Training Department, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Associate Professor – Doctor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Mr. Mehdi Salim, Attaché for Scientific and University Cooperation, French Embassy in Hanoi, along with representatives from the leadership of faculties and departments; representatives from the French Embassy in Hanoi, representatives from the Francophone University Agency in Asia-Pacific, and representatives from various agencies, organizations, and research institutes…

Professor Gilbert de Terssac, former Director of the Center for Research on Management, Organization, Labor and Power (CERTOP) – a highly reputable research unit under the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) – is a leading researcher supporting the transformation of Vietnamese society. He serves as a bridge between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Toulouse 2 – Jean Jaurès, the Francophone University Agency, the University of Téluq, Canada, etc., in identifying, designing, and implementing collaborative research programs aimed at community development and publishing international publications. Notable among these is the Cultural and Tourism Center in Moc Chau, Son La, inaugurated in June 2014, and the book "Vietnam in Transition," published in France.

In particular, as a leading professor of sociology with great international prestige, Professor De Terssac has always facilitated international cooperation between the Vietnam National University in general, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular, with major international partners such as: the Agency for Francophone Universities (AUF), the French Institute for Development Research (IRD), the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, Téluq University, Canada, BigC Shopping Center, and major French tourism organizations such as Exotissimo... Through this, many international cooperation programs have been signed and effectively implemented, including many international scientific conferences, notably: Integration of Vietnamese university graduates into the labor market (2006), Analysis to support business transformation (2007); Creating socio-economic activities to serve sustainable local development – ​​The case of the Northwest region and Son La (2010)…; Interregional research cooperation between Midi-Pyréées, Republic of France, and Son La province, Vietnam. Through this program, Professor De Terssac secured numerous field research scholarships for Vietnamese students (15 scholarships totaling approximately 400 million VND).

In the field of education, Professor De Terssac has supervised many Vietnamese doctoral students in sociology, making significant contributions to helping them become independent researchers capable of leading large-scale scientific research projects. In addition, Professor De Terssac led a research program on the management training needs of Vietnamese students, chaired a community development research program in Son La from 2007 to 2014, and edited the book "Vietnam in Transition" in French…

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - highly appreciated the outstanding contributions of Professor Gilbert de Terssac; and emphasized that the awarding of the Honorary Doctorate to Professor Gilbert de Terssac is an event that demonstrates respect and high appreciation for Professor Gilbert de Terssac's contributions to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and to Vietnam.

Expressing his honor at being awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Professor Gilbert de Terssac affirmed that in the future he will continue to support and assist the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in the fields of training, international cooperation, and scientific research.

It is known that, prior to Professor Gilbert de Terssac, Hanoi National University had also awarded honorary doctorates to 51 individuals from various countries and territories.
