Hanoi National University awards honorary doctorate to French professor

Attending the ceremony were: Ms. Sophie Goedefroit - Director of the Francophone University Agency in Asia - Pacific; Mr. Mehdi Salim - Attaché for Scientific and University Cooperation - French Embassy in Hanoi; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc - Head of Training Department of Hanoi National University along with many lecturers and representatives of some specialized departments of the University.

Prof. Gilbert De Terssac received an Honorary Doctorate from VNU

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi) - said: "The honorary doctorate awarded to Professor Gilbert de Terssac shows respect and appreciation for his outstanding contributions in many aspects to the construction and development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular and VNU Hanoi in general".

It is known that Prof. Gilbert de Terssac is the person who advocates research to support the transformation of Vietnamese society and is the bridge between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Toulouse 2 University - Jean Jaurès, the Francophone University Agency, Téluq University, Canada... in identifying, designing and implementing mixed research programs to develop the community and publish international publications, notably the Cultural and Tourism House in Moc Chau (Son La) inaugurated in June 2014 and the bookVietnam in transitionprinted in France.

He always facilitates international cooperation activities between VNU in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular with major international partners; Many international cooperation programs have been signed and effectively implemented, including many international scientific conferences.

Currently, Professor Gilbert de Terssac is the supervisor of many Vietnamese sociology PhDs in postgraduate training and research, and has greatly contributed to helping them become independent researchers capable of leading major scientific research projects.

He has also chaired many research programs and projects, is a sociologist and is the first person to design an applied-oriented master's program in Sociology for Vietnam.

Expressing his appreciation and emotion, Professor Gilbert de Terssac thanked VNU for its recognition of his contributions and affirmed that he will continue to make efforts and dedicate himself to bringing more achievements in research and education cooperation, promoting the relationship between VNU Hanoi and French universities to develop further.

Before Professor Gilbert de Terssac, Hanoi National University also awarded "Honorary Doctorate" degrees to 51 individuals from many countries and territories.
