International Students New Year Festival 2025 is an annual event of Vietnam National University, Hanoi with the participation of 350 international students studying and researching at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The program aims to promote cultural cohesion, academic exchange and sharing of diverse experiences in the global student community, honoring the cultural and ethnic values of Vietnam and other countries around the world.
Here, the Board of Directors of VNU met and directly listened to the thoughts and aspirations of international students at VNU, continued to support, encourage, and care promptly, helping them to feel secure in studying and researching effectively at VNU.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Tuan Anh - Head of Development Cooperation Department, VNU said: Currently, there are more than 2,000 international students studying short-term and long-term training courses at member units of VNU. They have become cultural ambassadors of their country to Vietnam, a bridge connecting Vietnamese culture to the world, making an important contribution to enhancing the prestige and reputation of VNU in the international arena.

After more than 30 years of construction and development, more than 118 years of Indochina University tradition, VNU has achieved many outstanding achievements and truly become a multidisciplinary and multi-field research and training center. In 2024, VNU has achieved many outstanding achievements, becoming the leading national center for higher education and scientific research, with high international status and class, most notably reaching 325th position on the QS sustainability rankings; playing a leading role in the Vietnamese higher education system. "This success is thanks to the valuable support from partners, the efforts, cooperation and solidarity of all staff, lecturers and students, including all international students studying at VNU" - Mr. Le Tuan Anh emphasized.
Within the framework of the program, many festival activities took place very excitingly and attracted the attention of many students such as: International Student Cultural Festival: including exchange activities between booths organized by country, where international students displayed and shared about culture, cuisine and typical customs; Experience activity "Colors of Vietnamese conical hats" - Learn about the origin of conical hats and experience decorating conical hats; Folk game activities; Music exchange activities...

Students of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities brought to the festival traditional dishes of China and Laos, displayed calligraphy, participated in games such as bamboo dancing, tug of war, and making traditional Vietnamese hats.
Expressing his joy and pride in studying at VNU, student Peter Stuart Messe from the US, currently studying Vietnamese Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared: “I have researched and chosen to study the bachelor's program in Vietnamese Studies at VNU-USSH. I not only learn Vietnamese but also learn about Vietnamese culture and develop my ability to use Vietnamese. The issues that I am interested in such as Vietnamese history, villages, Vietnamese ethnic groups, Vietnamese literature and art, ideology, political institutions, interdisciplinary research... have become clearer when I study in Vietnamese. Learning and experiencing Vietnamese culture through class hours is something that I am very interested in and find extremely meaningful.”

Previously, Unity Carnival 2024 - a special event was organized by the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU on December 15 to honor the cultures of countries as well as the cultural exchange between Vietnamese students and international students studying at the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language. International students from many countries were very excited and surprised to participate in Vietnamese folk games, such as bamboo dancing, throwing con, showing off their dexterity with betel wrapping, participating in a fashion show, and playing crossword puzzles about the heritage of Vietnam and the world. 12 booths of international students and Vietnamese students are decorated with unique cultural products and traditional dishes of the countries: China, Russia, USA, Japan, Korea, India, Australia, Laos, Cuba, Germany, Italy, France, Slovakia... In addition, students from all over the world can also participate in activities to experience Vietnamese culture such as calligraphy, fortune telling...
