There have been many innovations in postgraduate training and admissions.

Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Rector of the University, is giving a speech at the conference.

At the beginning of the conference, delegates listened to a report on the new points in the 2016 regular university admissions process presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam, Head of the Training Department of the University.

Accordingly, the university's regular undergraduate admissions process will have some new points. Specifically, in 2017, the university will not organize an aptitude test, but will use the results of the 2017 national high school graduation exam for admission. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will use 04 subject combinations for admission: (1) Literature, History, Geography - Code C00; (2) Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language - Code D100; (3) Literature, Foreign Language, Social Sciences - Code D101; (4) Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry - Code A00.

From April 1st to April 20th, candidates register for the National High School Graduation Examination and university/college admissions on the same application form through the Departments of Education and Training. Candidates can register for admissions with an unlimited number of preferences and schools, but must arrange their preferences in order of priority from highest to lowest (preference 1 being the highest priority).

After being admitted and enrolling, candidates have the opportunity to be directly admitted, given priority in the selection process, and admitted to high-quality training programs in Management Science, History, Psychology, Linguistics, Philosophy, and Literature if they meet the requirements stipulated by the University.

After completing their first year, full-time students in standard training programs have the opportunity to pursue a second major in one of the following fields: Journalism, Oriental Studies (specializing in Korean Studies and Japanese Studies), Management Science, Tourism and Travel Service Management, International Studies, and Psychology at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; English Language and Chinese Language at the University of Foreign Languages; and Law at the Faculty of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Students who complete the training program in both majors will receive two full-time bachelor's degrees.

Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam, Head of the Training Department, is presenting a report at the conference.

Dr. Pham Thi Thu Hoa, Deputy Head of the Training Department of the University, presented some new points in the organization and management of postgraduate training at the University.

Specifically, regarding postgraduate admissions in 2017, the online registration method is through the VNU admissions portal at http://tssdh.vnu.edu.vn. Registration is open from 8:00 AM on March 27, 2017 to 5:00 PM on April 9, 2017. Candidates only need to review the admissions information on the university's website to understand the eligibility requirements. For doctoral candidates, in addition to online registration during the aforementioned period, candidates must complete their application dossier (hard copy) and submit it directly to the training department (admissions office).

Regarding organization and management, there are also some adjustments. According to Regulation 4668, the minimum duration of master's degree training can be one semester (6 months). Course and thesis registration will take place from October of the previous year to May of the following year (instead of registration by semester). The thesis topic and supervisor must be approved by the University in April of each year. The course stub retention period is 3 years (reduced by 2 years compared to before). Students must present the content and research plan of their thesis topic no later than one month after receiving the thesis topic (previously 2 months). The cumulative GPA required for defense is 2.0 (reduced by 0.5 compared to before)...

Dr. Pham Thi Thu Hoa also presented the draft of the new regulations on doctoral training to solicit feedback from the professors at the conference.

Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Van Tung, Head of the Department of Sociology, delivered a speech at the conference.

Commenting on the university's admissions process, Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Van Tung, Head of the Sociology Department, suggested that the university should increase funding for admissions because the current budget is low and not very effective. Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Van Tung cited the example of the International Faculty at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, which has invested heavily in admissions, helping them attract a large number of students.

Also in this area, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, Head of the Faculty of Management Science, suggested that the university should have policies that prioritize cooperation with local authorities in the student recruitment process. Currently, the university's recruitment efforts are facing fierce competition from many partners, thus requiring close guidance and coordination in this area.

For the part-time study program, the university should also be more flexible in its admissions process. The number of students per class should be reduced to around 40. At the same time, specific guidelines on retaking courses and exams for students in this program should be issued soon, shared Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong.

Regarding the number of students supervised in their dissertations, Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Van Tung proposed increasing the quota by one for pilot training programs. He also expressed a desire for the university to provide specific guidance on doctoral training, particularly concerning the supervision of international students. The university should establish written agreements with international partners regarding supervision arrangements.

Concluding the working session, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Rector of the University, requested that the University's Training Department regularly support the units in arranging training schedules to ensure that the training process runs smoothly and effectively.

Regarding postgraduate training, the Training Department needs to continue reviewing and improving this activity. Accordingly, the department should pay attention to the training guidance process to ensure that master's students can complete their dissertations within 1.5 years and doctoral students within 3 years; and maintain strict progress reporting for doctoral students.

The training department also quickly reviewed the management mechanism for postgraduate and doctoral students to reduce unnecessary complexities. They improved the services provided to postgraduate and doctoral students through a one-stop shop approach. Continuing to improve, innovate, and cultivate a service-oriented spirit – turning it into a service culture – Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan shared.
