This morning, July 10, candidates completed the final exam, Literature. At the exam site of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, many candidates left after 2/3 of the test time. This year's Literature exam was praised by many candidates, but there were also opinions that with this exam, candidates would hardly get high scores.
Candidate Nguyen Thanh Thuy (taking the Oriental Studies exam) said: “I think this year’s Literature exam for group C is good, especially question 2 – an argumentative question that requires expressing opinions about cleverness in life, in both positive and negative aspects. This is also an issue within the candidate’s cognitive ability.” Regarding other questions, Thuy said that although it requires detailed analysis skills and comments on one or two works in comparison, if you study carefully and understand the works, it is not difficult at all. Thanh Thuy was optimistic about the test, thinking that she could get at least 8 points.
Candidate Nghiem Thi Tinh (Journalism major) also expressed her satisfaction with the Literature exam: “The exam was quite 'open', not focusing on reproducing knowledge but requiring the expression of personal thoughts and opinions. We are not very familiar with this type of question because we often review the analysis and comparison of poems or characters in works. This year's exam gave opinions and asked candidates to comment. Anyway, I really like this type of question because it forces candidates to think, reason and be creative. I think I can get 8 points.”
From another perspective, candidate Dinh Trong Trang (applying for Vietnamese Studies) also said that the Literature exam was good but would be difficult for many candidates and it would not be easy to get a high score. Trang emphasized that the essay question requires a deep knowledge and understanding, along with the ability to read the question, analyze each word in the question to understand the exact requirements in order to do well. Trang is confident that he can do question 1 - asking about the impression of the character Lien about Hanoi in the short story "Two Children" (Thach Lam) and question 2 - an essay about cleverness in life. But he said he was confused with question 3a - the question with the highest score on the exam - asking about the perception of the image of the soldier in "Tay Tien" (Quang Dung) with many different beauties, because "the way of asking is quite strange and difficult".
