Overview of the workshop

Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh emphasized the importance of the conference theme: Urbanization is an inevitable trend in the world. How is it associated with the development process, what are the opportunities and challenges?... The conference recorded the interpretations of domestic and international scientists on the above contents. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has the Department of International Development Studies under the Faculty of International Studies with studies showing interest in common world issues in the context of social development. Regarding the above topic, there are many knowledge gaps that need to be filled and more research directions that need to be opened. With that meaning, the conference is a good opportunity for the University to exchange and share in order to aim at linking theory with practice, meeting the requirements of Vietnamese society. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh also said that Ireland's development is a special model, both sustainable and truly smart.

Ms. Nuala O'Brien (Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of Ireland in Vietnam) shared: “Currently, in the world in general, the role of urban areas is the dominant role in all aspects of society, the driving force and also the cause of problems in development. In reality, development goals can only be achieved through scientific urban management. Vietnam, Ireland or any country in the world, although different, all have to face common problems in the development process, including urbanization. Urbanization creates economic centers, is an environment that nurtures start-up activities, education... Therefore, education is an effective measure to ensure sustainable and healthy development of urban areas in the face of urbanization. The Deputy Ambassador highly appreciated the significance and effectiveness of scientific and educational exchange activities. This is also one of Ireland's measures to solve the problems of urbanization.
